Re: RealGM 2021 Consensus Board #7
Went with Springer. He fits an archetype of a big guard who can rebound, push the ball, get into the paint, and score at multiple levels. He also will be a plus defender. I'm not sure how well everything will translate, but give his tools and his age I have a feeling that if he stayed in college one more year he would be in the conversation for the top pick next year. No one else seems like an obvious home run at this point, and Springer seems (to me) to have the most upside.

Re: RealGM 2021 Consensus Board #7
I went with Jalen Johnson in the #6 thread and Barnes got selected, so I'm not voting for JJ here.
I'm divided between Bouknight, Giddey and Springer... atm I'm voting for Bouknight, but I'm not so sure about it, could change later on, near the draft. I need to study more about all of these guys to get a better grip on my evaluation.
I liked what I've seen from Bouknight. I think his overall numbers suffered from coming back earlier than necessary from the injury (elbow?).
But still lots of good options in the 6-10 range in this draft... can't really go wrong here.

Don’t think Barnes is a chalk six.

Mitchell. He's easily the most polished guy left in the draft, and doesn't have any real weaknesses. The only reason not to take him is his age / lack of superstar upside (in theory, though I bet he could make an all star team), but his size, skill, and athleticism at the PG position are pretty elite. He's also a terrific defender. Why is he not even on the list when he's being mocked top 10 by most publications?

These polls are showing that after 5 there is zero consensus. It's totally wide open with big swings in evaluation. If GM's are like this too it's going to be interesting come draft night.

Re: RealGM 2021 Consensus Board #7
I went with Jalen. No doubt he has the red flags with his personality, but the talent is pretty obviously there.
He wasnt used right at all at Duke, so I dont pay too much attention to his offense at his short time at Duke. But the things that did stick out to me, I think I made it very clear that my biggest concern about Jalen coming out of high school was the lack of versatility on the defensive end. I didnt think he had the foot speed (not top end speed, but acceleration and lateral agility) to chase 3s and 4s around and because of that I thought defense would be the issue with him.
But his short time at Duke a few things stood out to me. He is a legit 6'9-6'10. He also has a strong frame and I think he can add muscle pretty easily and get even stronger. He has good hops as well. I think he can be a 4 and a small ball 5 in the league. And with that defensive versatility, I think his offense is very intriguing. I think it will take some years for his jumper to be consistent from the NBA 3, but he has the potential with it.
Ya I would take the risk on him at 7 in this draft. I think he has the potential to be part of that top 5 group. His personality red flags and him being used completely wrong at Duke definitely hurt him. But ya Id take him here.

Re: RealGM 2021 Consensus Board #7
JJ has a lot of red flags but just in terms of pure fit in today's NBA, physical pro and toolset he's really if we are being honest the 6th best player in the draft after the top5, it's just a question of how much u are willing to let the questions marks re: his attitude willing to drive him down

I bet he drops out of top 10 because of it regardless of skill

wouldn't be surprised, he's gonna get a lot of bad reviews from former coaches when teams start doin their research on him...but yea, in terms of just talent there is no one better outside that top5, except maybe Springer
