Post#1 » by Ghost of Kleine » Tue May 25, 2021 6:43 am

For this draft, Which prospects are the best positional 1 on 1 defenders in both the first AND seconds rounds. Are there any prospects with legitimate lockdown ability?

Out of Euros, Garuba is very good at 4 position.

This looks solid. Definitely agree with your two centers, agree with Mitchell and Garuba.

Surprised you don't have Wagner listed under SF. From what I've seen he's a lock down wing defender..

Maybe Moses Wright for a 2nd-round PF? I like Robinson-Earl too, but I'm not sure he makes it to the second round.

Definitely agree with Wagner over Murphy at SF.

I think Kai Jones should be in there - just not sure what position - or if he really has a position.

I think Queta got down-graded by people who didn't know he was playing with a sore knee for most of the first half of the season. The common knock on him is that he doesn't have quick feet. He finished the season strong - including 19 total blocks in his last 3 games and dominated his last 10 games. And unlike most shot-blockers, he also gets more than a steal per game. I thought Sam Merrill was underrated last draft (picked dead last), and this season his former teammate - Queta - is. Plus he adds a dimension with his passing ability - it's always a good sign when a center gets more assists than turnovers. But I digress.

I vacillated on Wagner. He is a good defender, but I think Murphy will be a bit better in the NBA? I'm not sure.

I went to Idaho State so I have a good sense for the level of competition he's facing. I've played the guys in our program, etc. and, you know, the bench players are better than me, but not much (whereas anyone on the Alabama team would just murder me). I think his stats are a bit inflated from playing in the Big Sky, and I also think he is really stiff in all his movements. If he ends up being pretty good I won't be surprised, but Hukporti looks more mobile to me. Although Queta played a TON of games outside the Big Sky and did really well this year, so my criticism might not be valid. I'm more familiar with him from prior seasons.

And he won't get drafted, but Darryl Morsell of Maryland is a helluva defender at the 2.
