If you were in the market for a quality guard to potentially consider for your PGOTF, And both Ayo Dosunma and Joel Ayayi are the best left on the board, Which is better and why? :dontknow:

Being a big Zags fan and seeing Ayayi grow over the last 4 years, I would say Ayayi considering he has been the ultimate role player and doesn't need the ball to contribute on the offensive end. In reality, late 1st rounders or 2nd rounders are not PGOTF, at best, you hope they can be good enough rotational players. I like Ayo, but he is a PG that needs the ball on the offensive end. If I can liken him to someone recently, think Nigel Williams Goss, great college player, but not a PG or SG at the next level.

Doesnt really make that much sense to me as the PG is the most valuable position on the court as they lead the offense so you would think that experience would matter, but every year there is a hot young freshman PGOTF. I'm given Suggs a pass as he was on a really good zags team and his experiences with USA bball, but not really sure aboutCooper, springer, types as there seems to be an abundance of these types of freshmen every year.

Ayayi is going to a very good player in the league for a long time. He has everything you want from a glue guy.

I like Ayo more for long term potential personally. But agree Ayayi is a great glue guy. Plus Ayo proved he could be that guy on a team, although i'd like to see better shot consistency.

I rate Ayo pretty highly. I have him in the same tier with McBride and Springer (all of them are mid-to-late 1st rounders to me) and I rate all 3 of them above Mitchell. I haven't seen enough videos about Ayayi to know whether I have him in that tier or not.

dont know abt the other guy much but ayo was a number 1 on the best team and won a big 10 title which was easily the best conference. He should not fall below 20 as a two way guy that can score on 3 levels. At worst your looking at a 3 and D wing who has elite ball handling skills and those guys are gold. Unlike bouknight, green he has an all round game like a role player so pretty high floor as well.

Funny I was going to make this same thread right now but I guess GoK beat me to it...we were discussing on Suns draft board...I will paste what I wrote on the Suns board after a lot of mention of Ayo.

I still like Joel Ayayi too. Absurd efficiency at near 67% TS%, over 68% from 2 and about 39% from 3. James Jones type...coming off Junior year, played for best team in the country (or best team until they had their first loss of the season in the championship game against Baylor).

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/joel-ayayi-1.html

Mocked at 30 to Utah.

This shot chart below was confusing at first because red usually means bad, but here it means good, so Ayayi looks like an elite rim finisher and good 3 pt shooter at the top. Ayo looks to be an pretty good rim finisher and not so good from mid range unless in the key. And a little better in the right elbow area from mid to long range...but really not so good anywhere else. He shoots a lot in the mid range too and doesn't seem great in most spots.

Looks like Ayayi tries and gets to the rim and finishes very well or spreads the floor. In that respect, I think he fits well...especially since he hits 3s at the top and all of our other 3 pt shooters except Paul and sometimes Book shoot from the corners (Bridges/CamJ/Payne) or between the top and corners (Jae, Book, Paul). Paul and Book shoot at the top some.

Anyway, Ayo has worse efficiency but was more of a scorer...the thing is, I think we don't need a scorer if we eventually want the top 3 options to be Book/Ayton/Bridges. We want a game manager who can finish at the rim to collapse the D or kick out, or spread the floor for other guys to drive/cut.

I don't know who is better at the pick and roll though.

The tough part of being the "man" in college is how that translates to the nba as that is a big transition from not being the main focal point of the offense and having the free reign to do as you want whereas in the NBA, that will not be the case 90% of the time

I dont like Ayayi as a main ball handler so I would say Ayo is ranked higher in that vein. But I would think Mcbride is the perfect fit in PHO behind CP3 who he may prove comparable too and to play behind him for a season and take over for him in year 2 would be soild plan imo

Speaking as more as a Gonzaga homer than anything, I love Ayayi. He was my favorite player to watch on this Gonzaga team. Always felt like he was the smartest player on the court. He gets a lot of easy buckets catching his defender falling asleep and cutting to the rim. This is probably a hot take but I felt he was our best team defender as well (up there with Watson). Suggs was a better on ball defender but he gets reckless with how much he gambles for steals off ball. At the end of defensive possessions he was usually either getting the rebound or streaking down the court for a fast break. He also got the first triple double in school history that happened 4 minutes into the 2nd half (against weak competition but still). I got to watch the game live as while I don’t quite live in Spokane I live close enough to get the local channels.

His main downside is he doesn’t have much of an offensive game on ball. He’s good at driving and finding an open shooter but I don’t expect him to score much on those drives. I think at most he’ll average 15 points in a season and usually average around 10. He also shot really poorly from the free throw line for a good portion of the season. The career I expect him to have is something like Avery Bradley. A solid starter but never going to carry a team.

But think of it for a team like the Suns, with the primary scorers being Booker, Ayton and then in the coming years, Bridges...thinking post Paul. They likely still have Payne too, so he might just serve as backup if Payne beats him out or earns a starting nod in the future.

IMO; I love both players and believe they will have long NBA careers. Can't go wrong with either.

The whispers are the Hawks is locking in on Ayo with pick 20. His handles are poor and he's way too upright guarding dribble penetration.

Both guys are below avg. athletically. They both have questionable jump shots and issues finishing against NBA bigs. The answer is look for a 3rd option if possible.

I think Ayayi will be a dependable role player, like a Josh Hart or Divencenzo type. Never a star but you know what you're going to get. Ayo has terrible BBIQ and I don't trust him. I see maybe a Dillon Brooks or Jordan Clarkson at best for him. I wouldn't want either on my squad so he's not the type of player I'd bother with. He's way more naturally talented though.

I love Dosunmu but I don't think he would have been a good fit for Phoenix. I do think Ayayi can be, and he is a UDFA so they should look at him.

I dont see either as PGOTF - both could be useful rotational players. I like ayayi somewhat better.

I don't know, maybe Ayo could surprise people and have a Jrue Holiday kind of career.
