This draft is a defensive tidal wave.

Post#1 » by cupcakesnake » Wed Jul 28, 2021 6:12 pm

I can't remember having a draft with so many guys who project as high-level defenders.

Mobley, Cade, Scottie Barnes, Wagner, Suggs, Garuba, Davion Mitchell, Moody, Keon Johnson all likely lottery. Then there's a huge scattering of potential first-round guys: McBride, Thor, Neemias Queta, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Herb Jones, Jaden Springer, Jared Butler, Isaiah Jackson, Jericho Sims, Jalen Johnson.

Everytime I sit down to watch film, I'm watching blocked shots on the perimeter or elite footspeed/footwork.

Are NBA depth charts about to see a huge influx of high-level defenders?

Cade a high-level defender? Also you forgot Trey Murphy III.

lotta good defensive players yes, or at the very least above average and willing defenders...i'd add Scottie Lewis, Chris Duarte and Joe Wieskamp to that list.

This video seems to indicate Wieskamp is a bad defender:
1/11/24 The birth of a new Hal. From now on being less combative, avoiding confrontation - like Switzerland :)

It's visual evidence of him getting beat defensively pretty bad on a bunch of plays, but to each his own..

you can pick and choose specific defensive players on anyone to show bad defense, literally anyone...i've been following Wies for 3 years straight, he will be a + defender in the NBA pretty clearly.

Yes Trey Murphy is a good one. I'm sure there's a big handful of guys I missed.

I'm not specifically high on Cade defensively (and haven't watched a ton of film of him on that end), but there's lots of scouts who are excited about his potential defensive impact. The fundamentals look solid, and he has good size and length to guard a variety of players. I wouldn't rank him high on my list of defensive players in this draft, but he's on people's list so I was just trying to throw on as many guys as possible for discussion.

This new generation understands you got to play defense if you want to win.

Lots of names thrown out there that I wouldn't call "great defensive players". I will say, in my opinion, there are two guys who aren't getting enough love;

Joel Ayayi and DeJon Jarreau.

outside of the physical profile the main selling point for Cade on that end is the I.Q. the elite movement isn't really present but the kid knows where to be, how to challenge, and makes some really good reads off ball. I can see him being more of a free safety playmaker on that end than an official clamps type of guy.

after what he did to Moses Moody's name, I got DJ K. Perk in a Verzuz battle against ANYBODY

Yes, lots of good defenders. Kessler Edwards and Trey Murphy are the 2 I'd add to the list

Yeah, I am with clyde here. The guy is a capable defender - quintessential 3 + D.

OP missed a guy that may out-defend them all in EJ Onu. Curious where he goes and when.

Wieskamp is ridiculously underrated in this Draft.
