Jeremy Sochan - Baylor

Has been my favorite prospect in the 2022 draft for awhile. Just now starting to pop up as a late 1st round pick on boards/mocks. For me he is easily a lottery level prospect in 2022. Elite defender, willing albeit inaccurate shooter. Can guard 1-5. Looks huge compared to teammate Kendall Brown. Can't quite put my thumb on who he reminds me of as a player. And he made 3 of 6 3's. He seems to be growing still - at 18. Man, Baylor's as good as last season.

yea Baylor is pretty ridiculous, Scott Drew is knocking it out the ball park not only with his recruiting but transfers too. Akinjo has been a decent replacement for Butler/Mitchell.

He's also steadily improved as a coach over the years as well. There was a time back in the Perry Jones time where I thought Drew was a really bad coach. I always felt like he just recruited these long athletes and had no clue what to do with them. I used to always wish Duke would have Baylor in their bracket back then.

But I have to give it to him. He really has improved as an actual coach over the years. He is still all about loading up on long athletic players, but they're an actually well coached team now. And they have been for the last 5 or so years now.

I like him. He gives me that poor-man's Scottie Barnes vibe in that both are very versatile PF-sized defenders who don't immediately jump out athletically, with great energy and a winning mentality, passing skills (although Barnes is more of an outlier) and a somewhat concerning but not broken jumper. I would like to see what he looks like when after some months on an NBA-level conditioning regimen, though, as he appears to have some room for improvement in that regard.

Watched Baylor a few times checking on his teammate and I came away being very impressed by Jeremy. This kid has a really high ceiling. I think anyway.

Think he is easily a lotto pick (and possibly higher) this year projecting his skillset to the next level. His ability to switch on D is really what drives this rosy view. While he probably will have to adjust his mechanics, if he can demonstrate any consistency from 3 (he's shooting 35%, but only taking 2 a game), he will climb up draft boards.

Is it such a stretch to think he's been better than Kendall Brown? Especially looking at where both are mocked. Anyone know when he returns?

No definitely not. I have him over KB, if only slightly.

Aside from maybe a 2-4 game stretch by KB, Jeremy IMO has been straight up better. Something about Kendall's timidness doesn't sit right with me. He'll consistently get around 20-25 mins and only shoot maybe 2-5 times during the game. Which is becoming the norm, not the exception with him IMO.

Is he now Baylor's best player?

Dunno if it's the coaching or the makeup of the players but Baylor look so directionless on offense, so lacking in craft and intelligence.

If Sochan can get drafted into a team with the coaching and players to bring out his offensive ability and bbiq, he could be an excellent pro.

But i think there's an equal chance that he just doesn't have the smarts or that he goes somewhere where his development is stunted.

He definitely looks like the kind of player that Masai would love.

I have both on my watch list for the Pacers with the Cavs pick.

He would be a good fit for the Celtics. Only if they had a 1st round pick this year. lol

As a Raptors fan and homer I expect our "build the whole team out of 6'8 versatile types" success to bump Sochan up the draft charts and think he could go as high as 6 or 7. Portland and Sacramento in particular are screaming for a guy who can defend all 5 positions and pass the ball.
