Dominick Barlow

Post#1 » by Hal14 » Mon Mar 28, 2022 3:09 pm

I'm pretty high on Jeremy Sochan, got him no. 10 on my big board.

But i'm starting to wonder...is Dominick Barlow just as good as Sochan?

About same age. Same height. Barlow 1" longer wingspan, Sochan slightly stronger frame. Both very good, versatile defenders. Barlow shot slightly higher % from 3 (and much better FT%) but faced much weaker competition. Both pretty similar in their ability to create off the dribble and the types of moves they make off the dribble (1 dribble pull up, spin move into the lane, up and unders)

Yet Sochan is getting lottery buzz, while Barlow is being mocked as a late 2nd round pick and in many mocks he's undrafted.

Makes you wonder..

I think the combine will be super important for Barlow. If he shows out there (both in terms of testing, drills as well as scrimmages) he could sneak into the 1st round.

What do you think?

I had forgotten about the scam high school league now peddling sports betting and NFT products.

Sochan is a productive freshman on the 'best' team in the nation. It would be difficult to say Dominick Barlow is as good, but his decision to focus on basketball without faking being a student paid off. A rank 150/unranked 3 star like him almost never makes the NBA after one season.

Baylor is not the best team in he nation.

The kids in Overtime Elite do take classes. They spend 20 hours a week in an academic setting.

No idea how many stars or what his ranking was 12 months ago. If you've followed his play this season (clearly by your post you haven't) you'd see that he's improved a ton.

Based on what I've seen over the course of this season, Sochan and Barlow look to be pretty comparable. I do have Sochan ranked higher, but I don't think it would be that crazy to have Barlow pretty close behind him..

The Thompson twins are potential top 5 picks in 2023. Barlow has matched up well against both of them when they've played against each other numerous times this season.

Also, despite the fact that you say he's ranked 150, this scout says he is top 40:

I want him or Dieng w/ the PDX 2nd round pick.

Both are solid upside swing type picks in the 2nd round.

I'm a Celtics fan. I'm just assuming Dieng will be off the board when we pick. Barlow, it seems like a pretty good chance he'll still be there..
