I’ll start off with AJ Griffin for POR.

He checks a lot of boxes with tangibles so I understand the appeal but I don’t share it.

I don’t think he fits seamlessly into any position. I’m not convinced he will be a plus defender at all and he might have injury issues.

He has that Marvin Williams stink to me.

I'll also put Sharpe on that list for Portland. He hasn't played competitive ball in >12 months & appears to be doing everything he can not to show anyone his live skillset

Interesting list.

I think Terry will move up to 20 or so. He looks like a really solid glue guy to me. Don’t like Moore (can’t help **** on Dukies)

Nikola Jovic. I think he's the bad kind of tweener defensively; not quick enough to guard the perimeter, nowhere near strong enough to guard the interior. And his offence is not good enough to compensate.

I see a lot of people seem down on Adrian Griffin, but he's a very big body, with at the very least, above average athletic ability and he seems very willing to be a defender and wants it on that end, which is the biggest key to being a plus defender in my eyes.

Add that to extremely impressive shooting for a freshman, I think he's a good bet to be a very good player that can fit in basically every lineup and style, with at least a decent chance of developing into much more.

For guys that are 6'6, 230ish, with a 7 foot wingspan? He's definitely a plus athlete overall, even if not overwhelming... He's posted a 40 inch vertical already at Duke camp. I think he's a little stiff for sure, but he's not lacking in tools.

But the point is, there are definitely guys who are plus defenders that are not good athletes at all. He might not be a DPOY, but if he has the desire and IQ to be a good defender, he will be. He's also shown much better athleticism at once time, that might still be recovering from when he was injured.

His downside is that he's probably not an offensive creator, but I don't think anyone really is around his spot, at least not without outlier development, which is hard to predict for anyone.

Chet. I think he might be fools gold. When he played against good teams his numbers went way down. I think I read that his 3-pt. percentage was 292% when guarded.

Gonzaga got the majority of their points in transition and Chet thrived in open 1 on none or one on a small defender.

In the NBA teams always get back on defense. I also seen a video of a player easily pushing him out from under the basket. I just don't think defenses will allow him to get to his spots.

I'm a big Jabari fan and hope the Magic don't screw it up. He played last season at 18 and will get better. Even if he doesn't improve, he can shoot and can defend the 2-4.

At 3 I'd be happy with any of the top 3, though I guess Jabari is my least favorite. Would still be happy as long as they don't try to get fancy and reach.

At 17 Liddell and Ochai are two I'd rather steer clear from.

Liddell is an older, undersized bully ball kind of guy and I don't quite trust the jumper.
If Ochai had legit wing size and not guard size I'd feel different, but 3&D guards that can't do anything but attack closeouts and hit 3s aren't all that valuable imo

I really don't want the Cavs to get Agbaji and add to the logjam they have at shooting guard. Or Branham or Johnny Davis. If they get a guard, he needs to be a plus playmaker.

I don't want Griffin at 6 either. He didn't show defense at Duke.

The Cavs don't know if they have long-term solutions at the 2 or the 3, depending on how you feel about Markkanen, Sexton, Okoro, and LeVert. They need backups at the 1 and the 5 although drafting a real prospect in the first round at the 5 is impossible because no one is going to want to be drafted behind Allen and Mobley in the first round.

So we're looking at wings, but unfortunately most of the wings in the draft are 2s, and it's hard to go small at the 3 if we're already going small with Sexton at the 2 and Garland at the 1. The Cavs will look at Eason and Sochan and Liddell at the 3, as well as Dieng and others. But the choices are mostly shooting guards, and with the roster the way it is that guy is going to be 3rd or 4th string coming into training camp.

The ideal fit? A plus playmaker with size to guard 3s, who at least has a concept of a shot. The players we're looking at are Dyson Daniels, Jalen Williams, Dalen Terry. But we also might just take BPA for someone to play the 2 or 3, or trade the pick.

Agbaji would be a worst-case where we don't get any of the playmaking we need while being too short to play the 3 alongside Garland and Sexton.

That's one interpretation of the question... Or it could just be that you don't think the BPA when your team comes up is a good fit for your team.

This was not intended to determine who is overrated necessarily, but more to determine if there was any consensus about players that fanbases might not want at their pick due to fit/age/over rating etc.

For OKC at #2, I don't want Banchero. I think he'll be a good NBA player but he strikes me as a low impact stats guy who will score the ball probably 20ppg+ but will be tunnel vision on offense and stunt the system.

Utah doesn't have a pick, but if we traded into the first (23 is the pick most available) I would not want any players who are poor perimeter defenders. This would rule out Jovic, Hardy, Baldwin, and some others who could be available at that range. I'd also be a bit afraid of Laravia. I get it, but I also don't. He can stretch the court and handle but he lacks plus mobility at the power forward position. He's very much a throwback to the early 2000s third tier of power forward (Boozer, West, etc.) who has stretched his jumper out to three point range. That might work in the modern NBA, but I'd lean more towards it being a difficult transition and could see him getting locked into being a 10-15 minute per game smallball center.
