Dariq Whitehead - Duke

Post#1 » by clyde21 » Mon Jun 27, 2022 5:25 am

just league this guy already - very close to putting this guy #1 over Vic and Scoot. he's that good. will follow his development here. if he displays just a bit more playmaking juice at Duke this year, he's it. close to being sig worthy for me.

i have a sacrilege comp for him already but it might get me banned.

FT shooting is the only hesitation I have with him. If he gets his FT% in the 70s, Im not really sure I see a flaw in his game. (Totally admit that my Duke bias could be playing a part in this evaluation haha.

Yeah, He scoot and Victor are looking like they'll all be better than anyone in 2022 to me

2023 draft is already looking much better than the 2022 counterpart, especially at the top of the lottery.

As for your comparison Clyde, let me try... LeBron?

We all thought Wiggins was gonna be Kobe before he busted.

just not convinced he'll ever be a reliable shooter.

Doesn’t need to be to still be serviceable. Look at Wiggins.

Obligatory Brandon Roy comp but actually feels like it this time.

It seems like guys just don't practice FT as much as they practice 3s these days.

The only reason I would be hesitant on his shot is his FT shooting. Either than that though, I don’t see much reason to be too hesitant on his shot. He has good natural touch and the shooting arm is straight and has a great angle on it. So it will be very easily repeatable.

ESPN. Come on now. Anyone who has watched anything of high school ball over the last few years should be able to see that the guys they're ranking ahead of him are nonsensical.

Im posting this video because with the discussion about his jumper, I thought this video gives some angles you dont get to see too often with high school games (you rarely see a straight on shot of the jumper).

1:54
2:46

There are some other solid angles in the vid as well, but I think those two are the best. You get good clean straight on shot of his form. Perfect angle on that shooting arm, there is no flaring with it. The ball placement is at a very good spot as well (no Lonzo across the face or covering the face), and its nice and high.

The offhand does stay high and back, but its not putting any strange spin to it. So that may put a different look to it, but thats not affecting it. Again that shooting arm is nice and straight and super repeatable.

weird, I feel like his jumper is one of his best traits. he's only 6-6 but the apex on his shot is like 6-10, hard to block, can shoot from many angles and platforms, mechanics are clean when his feet are under him. quick trigger on his shots.
