Dariq Whitehead

Duke bias aside hard to find an actual flaw to his game at the moment either than FT shooting. He has solid size for the 2 spot, he has a solid handle, he is a plus athlete, he is known for his defense, also known as a plus passer for a 2 guard, and the past year his 3pt shot has become a legit weapon.

I think he is one of the safer 2 guard picks to come out of high school in sometime. While he may not have the crazy athleticism like a Jalen Green has, I think Whitehead has a pretty high ceiling himself.

He's got the prettiest jumper and is a plus (not elite) athlete like you said but he has just average size and is a little stiff at times.

There's several 2 guards that remind me of former elite pros and any of them could end up being the best from this class:

Whitehead=Ray Allen
Whitmore=Wade
Smith=McCollum
George=Beal

I think Whitehead and Whitmore are the two best and both should be in the top 3-5 mix. I would have them both behind Edwards, Cade, Green, Mobley, Banchero, Chet, Smith, Ivey, Wembanyama, and Scoot.

DWH for me by a pretty good margin

Livingston is also intriguing, Whitmore's been mentioned, Wallace is kinda of a Maxey type, some people are really high on Bailey but not sure I am there yet, you also got the Thompson twins but not a huge fan, Rupert for the internationals I like.

couple of non-FS that might shoot up boards are Cleveland and Hawkins.

Not sure about ‘the best’ but he is an underrated prospect.

I'm gonna nominate Tyrese Proctor out of Australia.

There is some market inefficiency going on with Australia (see Giddey, Daniels before season). His ranking doesn't matter (low 5 star)

Tyrese Proctor is playin on the senior national team as the only non-pro (but the level of pros is quite low, but at least grown men) in the FIBA Asia Cup, and is looking like the best player on the team.

unlike Daniels/Giddey Proctor will be playing at Duke this season so any 'inefficiency' will be corrected - I also look at Proctor more of a PG which why he wasn't mentioned but if we want to look at him as a SG then yea he def has to be included

cam whitmore. unless people think he's a sf - semantics. he'll be the best wing from the 2023 draft

Both Thompsons have through-the-roof potential if they develop their shooting.
Keyonte George may not be the best SG in the class, but he's going to be very good.
Anthony Black looks to have a really nice all-around game so far.
I have Nick Smith as a PG right now.
I like Dariq Whitehead, but I think Chris Livingston may turn out to be just as good.

Really nice class. Deep too when you add Gradey Dick and Amari Bailey.

He's definitely more of a SF IMO

He'll be a point guard, but think he'll be the best guard out of the 2023 draft.

Whitehead is the easy answer but this really is a pick your flavor type of wing crop. Shooters, combos, insane athletes, defenders, and all around guys all in the mix. Goood year to have one or two lottery tickets even if you miss out on the top 2.

Haven't watched even half of the candidates yet, but so far Anthony Black really sticks out.

there seems to be a lot of confusion I think on what a SG is...not all SGs are wings and not all wings are SGs, also lead guard prospects like Scoot aren't SGs so not sure why he's being mentioned at all. also Anthony Black is more of a combo guard than a SG.

a SG is primarily an off-ball guard that exclusively defends other guards, typically a good scorer and shooter. at least that's how I would define it. for example a guy like Cason Wallace is a SG but not a wing because he's not gonna be defending wings.

honestly 'pure SGs' is a dying position like traditional PFs, SGs are just 3/D guys now. otherwise you're either a wing, a lead guard or a combo guy.

right, which is why the question shouldn't be - who will be the best SG to come out of the draft, but rather who will be the best guard or wing. very few dudes are just SGs any more - and if they are, they usually aren't an elite overall player. as you say, they are generally a role player. if you're a star caliber player you have to do more than just SG.
