Taylor Hendricks

Post#1 » by EvanZ » Sat Dec 10, 2022 7:20 pm

I thought we had a thread for him but I guess not. Weird oversight because he seems headed towards the Lottery. Probably nobody watching UCF, but he was a top 50 recruit. Still time to get on the train before it leaves the station.

Probably don't need so many individual players threads, don't think it was an oversight. I see him going top 20. I personally would take him lottery.

I mean if he’s a first round pick he’s going to have a thread here lol

The Hawks should be in on this dude. If he could expand his game to be a 3-4 that would such a good look for him. I wanna see how he performs against Houston before I judge.

Interesting matchup as im literally trying to decide who I like more, Jarace Walker or Taylor Hendricks.

Might be Hendricks right now and I really like Walker.

I see TH is an ancillary connective game changing piece on defense. Something along the lines of AK47 and Josh Smith. That archetype is missing in today's game and I think he has the ability and mindset to excel in that role.

I need to see him vs NBA caliber wings and forwards tho. UCF schedule had only one ranked team which is crazy last I looked. Hopefully they make the tourney and we can get a better insight on how he adapts.

Surprised tankathon doesn’t have him top 30 even.

Tankathon is a great, user-friendly resource, but every year their rankings always seem to be a bit off until they add in second round picks. I think they overly focus on returning players until they've done all their research into all the freshman class.

As for Hendricks, he's exactly the kind of player I really like: tall, long-limbed guy with fluid movement, who can dribble (at least to a usable extent) and shoot. Those guys, to me, just ooze potential. He's going to be one of these players that have a massive rise in their draft stock, for sure. He seems to be 2nd round (if he is listed at all) on most of the boards I've seen so far. I'd be pretty surprised if he is not consensus lottery come draft time.

Just caught his game vs Ole Miss. His team went up 20-0 in the first 10 minutes. He seems to have special team defending ability. In one possession he had two feet squarely inside the restricted paint circle and was able to recover and block a 3 attempt.

I hope he can play 3 but likely is a 4. I guess he can play it under special circumstances like Vanderbilt in Utah/LM in Cleveland. Very light feet and moves around like it.

Tankathon currently has Dereck Lively at #19. They don't have Baba Miller or Hendricks. That's disqualifying.

The best mocks I've seen (or the ones I tend to agree with) are generally nbadraftroom and Matt Babcock's.

An under the radar player that could end up as a real stud:

Taylor Hendricks (Central Florida, PF, Freshman)

Overlooked because of: Scouts' unfamiliarity, limited creation

Undervalued because of: NBA tools, valued archetype

Taylor Hendricks is starting to generate NBA attention by checking a valued mix of boxes with his shot-making, defense and tools/athleticism.

He's the nation's only player with at least 25 threes, 15 dunks and a block rate over 5.0 percent.

It's obviously important for the shooting to continue, though the early consistency remains promising, as he's at 41.0 percent from deep on 4.4 attempts per game while converting 79.1 percent of his free throws. Hendricks has done most of his damage spotting up, but a small sample size shows Hendricks is also comfortable off the dribble (6-of-14), slowing down before pulling up or using touch on runners (6-of-10).

He does remain limited in creation situations, but he's ultraefficient when converting in transition (99th percentile), and he's produced by mostly playing to his strengths, play-finishing fast-breaks, rolls, cuts and catch-and-shoot chances.

Early on, NBA coaches may find more use for his defensive tools and activity, given his 6'9", 210-pound frame, mobility, motor and ability to contest shots at the rim and away from it. Hendricks combines both fearlessness challenging finishes and impressive foot speed guarding in space.

Between his body type and shot, teams are beginning to see translatable three-and-D—and that's a floor projection for a freshman who turned 19 years old in November. Continuing to produce during conference play should help Hendricks secure a spot on team's first-round boards.

I mean he's not under the radar here obviously. I don't get how he's staying under it tbh. But I don't follow Givony anymore and I'm off Twitter.

What other guys in the past 45 or 10 years fit his profile?

Genuinely curious what other guys have met these thresholds:

-Freshman
-6'9" or taller
-39% or better from 3
-8 or more 3PA / 100 possessions
-Blocks % of 6 or higher

If you wanna narrow it down even more, put in a BPM of 8 or higher, PPG of 14 or higher and TS% of 59 or higher...

He'd gotta be lottery at this point - could even make a push for the top 10
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Jaren Jackson was a bigger, better and younger version of TH's archetype basically. But other than that not sure I could find anyone.
