Do good prospects ever come from bad college teams?

Post#1 » by Time for Change » Tue Dec 13, 2022 10:18 pm

I know there’s been a number of great players who didn’t play in the NCAA tournament, but generally their teams weren’t terrible. For example Lillard didn’t make it but his team was still 25-7 in his final year. Klay is another example, but his team was 22-13.

How much of a red flag is it for a lotto prospect if their college team plays significantly below .500 (e.g. Fultz’s team was 9-22)?

Ant was on a terrible Georgia team.

I think it's more of a red flag for older prospects. They usually understand how to play with their team and how everyone fits in by that point.

Klay was a junior if I'm remembering correctly, Dame a senior..

I'm not putting a ton of weight in how a freshman lead team does like with Fultz, I'm looking more at what he specifically looks like. He really shouldn't be having that large of a role as a freshman.

LSU didn't make the tournament when BS was there.

That team also had Antonio Blakeny & Tim Quarterman.

it happens but it's not common, most of the top HS players go to top programs and top programs are always at least decent, and those are the usually the guys that are NBA prospects.

Antman was already mentioned, Fultz and Ben Simmons are others, you're likely gonna get another this year with GG Jackson, Stanford was barely a .500 team with Ziaire Williams, Alabama was like 9th in the SEC the year Collin Sexton was there, some others.
