Why is it that the one and done players in a draft class are sometimes born in different years? For example, in this year's draft, Brandon Miller was born in 2002, Jarace Walker was born in 2023, Cam Whitmore was born in 2024 and yet they're all freshmen.

I'm from Canada and here everyone in a graduating class is born in the same year. Is it different in the States?

Usually, people are born September (year XXXX-1, e.g. 2022) - August (year XXXX, e.g. 2023). Some parents will choose to wait a year for kids who would be really young in a grade, can be an advantage both in sports and academics. In my case, I had a serious illness so ended up being rather old for my grade b/c I could not start on time. So, there are lots of reasons why the age range is so wide.
