African prospect who is going to play in the FIBA World Cup. 7'2 with 9'5" standing reach. Blocks shots & shoots 3's. Kid sounds like the next Wemby.

I looked him up. He looks extremely clumsy / awkward.

Funny thing you mention him on the same day he appears on the Wiretap...

Like a 2 minute clip but he looks a lot like Bol. Bit less wonky on the court. 3 point shot looks a ton like him.
Bol with even a hint of BBall IQ and passion is probably an All Star so not trying to make a comp suggesting he is trash.

I guess I never realized he's been playing basketball for 5 years...that's kind of insane. And he may be a top 5 pick. I like this kid. Vecenie says he should go to Philly

2.2 blocks per 40 is about half what I would expect from someone that size.

Yes...that's an issue however don't you think he gets better? He's clearly affecting plays on defense.

I expect all teenagers to get better lol.
In general I don't like using high picks on centers since so many good centers have been picked outside the top 10. I would make an exception for someone who has shown that he's elite but I really don't think Maluach has done that.

I get the don't draft a center too high sentiment. For me, it's about how one truly rates guys like Edgecombe, Johnson, Kasparas J, etc compared to someone like him.

I am surprised he is expected to go in the top 10. I like, don't love him....worried about his feet. Compare his movement to Lively from his year in college and he just doesn't seem to have the same mobility.

To your point Lively averaged 4.7 blocks per 40.

I kind of get the sense that Malauch and Knueppel are both being overrated to some extent because they are on a team with Cooper Flagg.

I haven't watched Duke in awhile but when I watched earlier in the season i wasn't impressed with Kon at all.

3.2 blocks per 100 is terrible (and he has double the fouls than blocks, btw)...i mean, for his archetype he needs to be like double that block rate to be a compelling pick in the lotto.
even a guy like Jaxson Hayes had 5.7 blocks per 100 at Texas, and he was seen as a late bloomer who didn't play at a lot of basketball growing up (football background).
i guess there is always an outlier chance for late stage development and he'll turn into a defensive demon in the NBA but it doesn't track right now and I most likely wouldn't make the bet top 20.

Think his stock tanks when it comes to workouts.
Dude just doesn’t much when he should be feasting on that team with so many easy opportunities.

Insanity that those two guys are rated so highly.

Lakers just tried trading for Mark Williams, who is a similar talent to Maluach, and were willing to trade Knecht and a future unprotected 1st that they had been unwilling to trade for the past couple of years. The Mavs tanked so they could get a top 10 pick which they ended up using on Lively. Clingan was taking #7 and Edey #9. He's huge and very long and sometimes has surprising agility but his production is limited due to minutes and how many mouths there are to feed at Duke so it's a tough evaluation. Having played for just 5 years it suggests he's just scratching the surface. Top 10 pick is not off the table. It'd be nice if they'd showcase him a little. I feel like that would change perceptions.

I get the appeal more with Malauch. Hes raw, but he's only a couple months older than Flagg, was late to pick up bball, and is just a massive dude.
Ive watched a handful of Duke games and you don't even notice Kon at all when hes on the court. I can't remember a single time he did something that stood out to me and he doesn't seem like an NBA level athlete. Just seems like a guy with decent size who makes open shots and keeps the ball moving. I could certainly be missing something, but it seems wild to me that he is getting top 10 hype.

Mark Williams was as a much better prospect and even he had to spend a couple of years at Duke, and has real tape in the NBA, not sure how that's comparable to Maluach
you talked about how VJ should stay in school but it's probably much more beneficial to a guy like Maluach.
