Re: Drake Powell - UNC
Still trying to assess his skill and coordination level as he has limited ball handling ability and does not shoot with confidence but he's certainly intriguing in terms of his physical and athletic profile. With him and Ian Jackson, who is an electric athlete himself when a lane is open (though I'm not sure yet if he can be a primary ball handler and decision-maker in tighter situations), UNC is finally worth watching again for draft nerds. Felt like forever.

I'm not super enamored based on the one preseason game I've seen. Looked a bit small (more of a shooting guard than a wing) and uninvolved, but maybe it was something weird with camera angle or who he matched up with.

I'm hopefull for Powell. I think he's a legit 6'6" with a physical profile that reminds me a bit of a young Michael Finley. His ceiling is high.

Was very high on Powell's prospects but UNC needs to start him now. Not later.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

So what's going on at UNC? Why is Ian Jackson transferring out? Why can't they showcase young prospects? In the last three drafts, I think the only player that came out of UNC is Harrison Ingram.

Love his film. Think his usage rate underrates his skill level and he has some of the most impressive defensive film in this class (starts at 1:01:35).
Terrance Mann plus vibes.

St Johns has a huge booster who gives these kids a ton of NIL...

Re: Drake Powell - UNC
no idea why any top recruit bothers going to UNC tbh, when was the last time they developed anyone? even Harrison Barnes, who was a top tier HS recruit, never really developed in their program and had to stay for his sophomore year.
Walker Kessler and Cole Anthony probably the one ones since Barnes and there is zero evidence UNC did anything to boost their draft stock, if not inhibit it actually.
not to say Powell (or Ian Jackson) would be some world beating prospect right now but UNC in general has just been bad developing players for like a decade now at least.

Re: Drake Powell - UNC
I think his floor is at least a player like Vince Williams in Memphis, and I think he can do a few more things offensively. I wouldn't expect him to be a star, but he could be a solid 3D guard who can defend up or down a spot and has the ability to put the ball down and make a play.

Re: Drake Powell - UNC
I see something like Terance Mann. Not super explosive (but a bit), but with enough "good enough" attributes that he can be an amorphous roleplayer for someone where sometimes he is a secondary ball handler, and other times he is just a spotup player. Don't know enough about Vince Williams, but statistically he seems like a similar player? I think Powell is fine in the middle to late 20s as a ceiling, but another guy where at a certain point hes interesting only insofar as the rest of the draft dies because its depth has been lost to NIL. I'm not sure I believe he is 6-6, but thank God the combine is coming. Maybe a high end outcome is a better defending Alec Burks?

Well the combine was certainly good to Drake. He crushed the testing and his measurements 6’6 and 7’ wingspan.
He def will be a plus defender with elite defense potential. Good transition player. Like how he
shoots contested 3s without hesitating.
See some Aaron Nesmith. Like the Alec Burks comp. Would have to really develop to become a secondary playmaker.

I wish his athletecism popped more in game than it does. He has some incredible blocks now and then but you really didn't see it translate as much on offense. Could just be role, though. If you want to bet on guys with NBA bodies outside of the top 5-7 it is Powell, Thiero, and Bryant (who, IMO, may climb that high).

Seems like a decent bet to be a nice 3/D guy. Reminds me a bit of Tony Snell / CJ Miles.

He is young, I imagine he learns to use his body better and the athleticism becomes more functional and apparent on court.
He is definitely someone I would use a pick on.

He has too much potential to go that late imo, defensively he looks to be really impressive already and the measurements give me peace of mind it will translate to the next level. The athleticism is there but he is super young and still working on his body and learning to use it in game. Shot looks alright and he has some juice on offense that potentially could be squeezed out as well
