Tahaad Pettiford

Post#1 » by EvanZ » Wed Jan 1, 2025 3:40 pm

Seems like an obvious Lottery pick to me. I get that he's small but so are Boogie and Robert Wright. Pettiford is giving very productive minutes on the top team in the country. He's a great athlete, has a tight handle, shoots the **** out of the ball and doesn't turn it over. He was a top 30 RSCI coming in and yet I don't see him on any mocks. What's the deal?

This draft is stacked with productive Freshman Guards. What makes him an obvious lottery pick considering the competition he has (both overall but also for his projected role in particular)? Genuine question, as I have not paid close attention to him. But looking at his archetype, his boxscore production and his competition, that feels like a big stretch to me.

Auburn has had the 14th strongest SOS by my stats. He's playing 20 minutes off the bench and producing near top 10 by possession among Freshman.

He is the competition for his competition, if we're talking about Boogie Fland and Robert Wright III. There's no reason not to include him in that discussion.

What is going on here guys. Still nobody realizing that this guy might be the best guard in the class eventually. It's wild.

Definitely agree that Pettiford is flying under the radar with regards to NBA Draft coverage.

Showing out in a limited role on a Senior laden team that is proving to be the best in the country (only non-senior in the primary rotation). Despite this, he's scoring at the 2nd highest rate of scoring and facilitating on the team.

He might be in contention to be the best 3pt pull up shooter in this class. Size & finishing are really the 2 question marks. Is he a legit 6'1? What does his wingspan look like?

He's A LOT like Rob Dillingham as a draft prospect in terms of strengths and weaknesses.

Dillingham shooting splits last season:

55% FG at the rim (31% of FGA) [4 dunks]
43% FG on non-rim 2s (29% of FGA)
44% 3FG (40% of FGA)

Pettiford shooting splits this season:

47% FG at the rim (24% of FGA) [4 dunks]
48% FG on non-rim 2s (20% of FGA)
38% 3FG (55% of FGA)

Great game but I don't even think he's 6'0. He's one dimensional flame thrower who can really only shoot 3's. Jeremy Fears Jr at least is a playmaker and is way more rounded. Pettiford is also very streaky

Nearly 2:1 a:t ratio as a Freshman…but sure. Keep hitting the snooze button.

Pettiford reminds me of Celts version I. Thomas.. He's a top 5-7 prospect in the draft and closer to a Maxey than a Dillingham imo.

Not clear to me that he's any smaller than Garland was as a Freshman. Or Trae. Garland arguably has a better frame (wider clavicles), but Pettiford clearly a better athlete vertically and burst-wise.

Pettiford is the truth. Lotto pick imo. Jersey kid with solid handles, good slasher, and he is leading one of the best offenses in college basketball as a freshman. Easy to like.

Except he is 5'10". Listed as that on ESPN with Auburn reddit posters claiming that he is shorter than 5'10" poster in person. Auburn clearly juiced his numbers.

Tahaad is just too small. For every inch below 6'1" or so, you gotta be 25% better multiplicatively.

Likely the same size as Van Vleet, Alvarado, Davion Mitchell, Aaron Holiday.. He'll be fine

I’m honestly surprised people think he’s a lotto pick. Especially the great Evan Z…just shocking

I'll be shocked if he's that small. That is not what 5'10" looks like to me.

Reminds me alot of Brandon Jennings. Great burst and tight handles. Garland is even more skilled but lesser of an athlete.

Returning to Auburn
Read on Twitter

I think he is a good candidate for mid-late lottery next year.

Smallish guards should go pro whenever they have a chance to go R1.. Returning to school probably isnt the best decision.. esp. for a coach that doesnt pump out pro prospects.

Return to NBA Draft
