Current coaches are massively over exaggerating the NIL amounts currently in many cases because majority of coaches are exceedingly frustrated by the current ecosystem. The 9th man on mississippi state's bench who plays 4 minutes a game isn't getting paid a half million. And that goes for most power conference benches. The absolute top guys are making a ton of money, as are the rock solid portal dudes who were all conference somewhere and are transferring, but there's zero chance that schools are handing hundreds of thousands to dudes who literally are not going to see the floor except as the victory cigar.

it's clearly enough to dissuade players from coming out whatever it is. I wonder if the NBA is going to counter by changing the 2nd round.

Hold outs are coming to NCAA basketball I am assuming, we just saw one on the football side with QB Nico Iamaleava, who wants more money from Tennessee and they told him no, so he's now bouncing from the program

Nico is also an elite QB prospect and the growth in NIL money has changed a lot in 2 years.
I think things will settle for the most part for basketball since all the top prospects are one-and-done. Players are already entering the transfer portal in part because they can get more money elsewhere.
It's a real nothing-burger for basketball.

meh, Nico was actually pretty bad last season and he's more name than output at this point

I think by 'bench guys' he's referring to guys in the rotation off the bench. I was listening to a podcast today and they basically said the same thing. 6th man guys are making $500K at power programs.
They also said the new PG for UNC who transferred from a school out west...can't think of his name...is getting $1.2M and scored 10 ppg.

NBA can't raise the first round salaries until the next CBA correct?
