Surprised we don’t already have a thread going. Last night’s Utah vs Memphis was the epitome of a great SL game. Lots of talent on display and super competitive throughout.

Collier showed up to SL overweight and seemingly an even worse shooter. As inexcusable as that is he plays lackadaisical as if he's too good for SL. I think he is headed towards being on my Wall of Shame. Cody Williams only looks marginally better than his disastrous rookie season. Any time he's handling the ball it's an adventure. Twice getting stripped because he can't dribble past anyone. I'd limit him to just a corner 3 and D player at this point though he should probably spend the entire season down in the G-League tbh since he's the worst of their wings by a long shot. The Jazz just had to give Clarkson and Sexton away for nothing but their love affair for undersized shooting guards that can't play defense remains intact as they simply replaced them with Clayton Jr. Maybe they figure as bad as Collier looks Clayton can play PG?

It's beyond weak that teams are load-managing rookies. Not a good sign that Edgecomb, Harper and Bailey happily sit out games at this point.

Topic has flashed his potential. It's good that he can be brought along slowly with zero expectations because he's not ready. Mitchell should be a starting PG in the NBA. It sucks for him and Wallace that neither will get the minutes they deserve behind SGA though I think they'll lessen SGA's minutes somewhat this season to keep him fresh.

I think Clayton has been a nice surprise, I was afraid he couldn't create space against NBA athletes and in summer league he still can. Tries hard on defense, makes good plays... he should start, I think he is more of a PG than Sexton or Clarkson, too.

Cody Williams is still legendarily allergic to rebounding the ball. He's been terrible in general, but he's obviously at risk of being out of the league in a year or two so you'd think he'd at least attack the glass. But no. 2.3 rebounds per game despite playing nearly 30 minutes a game.

I am selling my Walter Clayton stock if anyone is interested. He looks really bad athletically especially on defense. The sixers game he went full statue mode like 3 times and guys just moved right by him in transition. Glad he had an okay offensive game last night but he gives me Trey Burke vibes.

Imagine saying this less than a month after Tyrese Haliburton suffered an Achilles tear due to playing through a minor injury

I really could not give less of a **** if guys sit out Summer League. It's Summer League. Game 7 of the Finals, okay you need to play if you can, but we're talking about Summer League.

still way too physically weak, hence the bad rebounding numbers

but yea, other than draft position or prior pedigree, not sure how he'll earn minutes at this point. can't point to anything he does well right now.

I mean, at some point, you should be able to get any rebounds just from having an 8'7" standing reach and trying at all. He's thin and weak, but not THAT much thinner than Ace who is getting 10+ rebounds a game.

kasparas, at least early, has to be the biggest disappointment in all of summer league. it's summer league and he's very young, so he could still be great, but through 3 games, it doesn't get much worse.

I always felt the Cody Williams hype was just based on his brother. Was never a fan.

I'd buy but I already have him #4 on my bigbboard. I actually don't think his offensive game has looked great....he started yesterday like 0-6 but he still finished with a great line and in the crunch time when okc came back and took the lead guess who hit the 3......the best clutch time performer I have ever witnessed in basketball at his age. I think okc was OK a 13 -0 run with wcj out of the game he comes in and hits a three Uber 2 minutes left.

His biggest question coming in was passing and he is showing me alot in summer league

His leadership already stands out. His defense will be fine

This years rookie class including tonje are going to completely wipe out last year's rookie class in Utah imo

i felt the same when i saw him at colorado and even when the jazz drafted him. i just never saw it and don't see it. as jazz fans, we just have to hope he can at least develop into a serviceable 3 and D guy. he has the length to be a good defender but of course he'll need to get a lot stronger. and he has a solid - looking at least - jump shot.

I thought he would offer some secondary creation like he did in U19 - I like his game in that environment, he seemed like an intelligent player who would just fit wherever. But god damn he just really sucks.

Ouch that WCJ to Trey Burke comparison is on point and rough. Not saying he will be Burke, but its certainly a good low end outcome comparison.

In their defense, Utah/California classic is the beta of summer league IMO. I'm expecting all to play once Vegas starts.

looks like you need to pay closer attention to summer league and you shouldn't lump ace, who played two games, in with vj (one game) and harper (no games). it's not uncommon at all in summer league for top picks to sit games out. it usually happens after they've played well so they can sit on confidence and the team can get looks at other dudes who play similar positions. ace played 2 of 3 games, and sat after his best game - again, which you see all the time in summer league. it will happen in vegas too - expect to see it with Flagg in vegas. vj and especially harper who didn't play at all - yeah, that's weak.

but yeah, after Ace struggled a bit in game one, then broke out in game 2, everybody i know who pays close attention to summer league knew it was extremely likely he'd sit game three. ultra common.

Weak because the team (which makes the call) let him fully recover from injury instead of taking a risk? And VJ, by your own logic, was totally justified in playing only one game in which he flashed his potential.

As mentioned, this is not the main summer league. It's also decided by teams whether their Rookies play. And finally, it's only fair to give minutes to all the players you have on your roster. That's what they signed up for after all.

The problem is not the players or the teams, it's people having their expectations for SL too high. Once you understand what SL is about, you'll be happier for it (and I say that as someone who'd love for all the top prospects to play as much as possible – but I understand that this is just my fan perspective).

Fears handle and speed is so nice, and he’s scrappy and engaged on defense. Hit a really nice deep three off the dribble, and his ability to just penetrate and create open 3’s and lobs with his dribble is sorely needed. He’s going to have success getting into the lane and causing havoc even as a rookie

Queen had some really bad looking trips, falls, unforced errors and goofy play. 0 points and like 5 turnovers in the first half. After that, he slowed down and looked really good driving the ball, finishing, and had a some nice passes, including an alley oop in the pick and roll that Missi couodnt hang onto. Finished with 13/10/3 with 7 turnovers, and hit a 3. Good to see recovery and adjusting to some really awful play.

Beringer looks like he can come in and protect the rim and finish right now. Just some nice touch shots from the dunker’s spot, and overall control of the paint on D. Great early signs.

Missi isolated and drove from the top of the arc and finished, didn’t have that on my bingo card lol
