Mikel Brown Jr.

Post#1 » by The-Power » Sat Nov 8, 2025 2:46 pm

I think he's worthy of his own thread. I'm not even sure how high I am on him because he has his issues and the archetype can be problematic. But he's just a lot of fun to watch.

He reminds me of Poole mixed with some LaMelo on offense, and the way he glides on the court also reminds me of Fultz. So even though I don't have him as a top-tier prospect, I'll definitely try to watch him a lot just for the aesthetics of his game.

The one thing we know for sure is that he can shoot. The things we need to watch for are rim pressure, playmaking and defense.

Looks like he has already started to fill out a bit.

That’s how I’d play him initially too. Max his shooting and have him run off screens. Then develop his on ball game.

I believe in his shooting. Could be a big time shooter. Lots of these combo guys would be so much better if the maxed their shooting instead of trying to be on ball scorers.

On my radar. This kid is productive and knows how to score.

This summer he was the most impactful player on team USA. Glad to see him picking up where he left off.

That was an impressive display

He showed good pg skills and a quick first step. Getting to the line 11 times is big for someone that is known for his long range shooting.

I have him as the same tier of prospect and player as Anfernee Simons. Not sure where that puts him in this class just yet. Probably solidly in the lottery though which is where Simons should have gone in his loaded draft class of 2018. These type of smaller (6'1" to 6'3") offense only scoring point guards get a lot of usage in the NBA and put up numbers because teams don't really seem to care about defense or wins but imho there's far too many of these types and he's no better than most. How many teams in the lottery next year don't already have a PG if not someone exactly like him? Grizzlies if they move off Ja? Mavs if they trade Kyrie? Hawks if they trade Trae? He'd make sense on the Wizards or Jazz but if they're choosing high in the draft there's be more talented players to take imho.

I think Brown has quite a bit more playmaking upside than Simons did, but I am not sure where it would rank among point guards in the NBA, maybe average?

Mikel Brown Jr. is proving to be a standout scorer and stellar passer.

17.0 PPG on 57.8% True Shooting on the year, slightly above league average efficiency which is currently 56.2% but more typically normalizes between 54% and 55%.
6.0 AST on 2.7 TOV per game.

Rankings to watch:

#126 in scoring by points per game.
#13 in scoring by points per game among freshmen.
#13 in scoring by points per game in the ACC.
#5 in scoring by points per game in the ACC among freshmen.

#26 in assists per game.
#2 in assists per game among freshmen.
#3 in assists per game in the ACC.
#1 in assists per game in the ACC among freshmen.

His free throw shooting is currently at 86.4% FT% on 44 attempts. The makings of a good shooter are in there.

Big believer in this kid. Sky high ceiling. He can really score. Really impressed with his PG playmaking. Makes the easy play well. Rare for guards that talented at that age.

Believe in his size and athleticism.

See some Hali in him. Better body too.

Coming into the season I was confident in his shooting but I had doubts about his ability to get to the rim and finish. Now it's the opposite. I have been impressed with his driving ability but starting to doubt his shooting.

I believe he'll be one of the most divisive prospects this year, even between me & myself ;)
Here's my initial profile for him, based on the Cincinnati and Arkansas games:

Lower back injury. He will miss his 5th straight matchup, a marquee game against Duke University, tomorrow.

He looked good. A couple of his 3 pt attempts were questionable but he wasn't taking all the heat check 3s he was taking pre injury.

Extremely traitsy like AJ but raw unlike AJ. Your typical tier 3.5 prospect
