Neoklis Avdalas Draft Thread

I think I have him in that 5-10 range. There's a lot of Luka, Banchero and Avdija to his game. Very in control and just knows how to play ball. I think he will be able to run an NBA offense given his handle, passing and BBIQ.

He's looked really good at times but he's also had a lot of games where he hasn't done much. Their games will be on TV next month on the regular ACC channel I'm looking forward to checking him out.

I completely agree. Looks like a very solid defender as well. He's the kind of multifaceted, skilled forward any team would love to have.
I currently have him in my tier 3. Really hoping my Blazers will be in a position to draft him.
Tier 1: - probable superstars
Dyabantsa
Peterson
Tier 2: - probable franchise players
Boozer
Wilson
Tier 3: likely all-stars
Brown
Avdalas

Needs to improve his offensive consistency (who doesn't though?) but his archetype is what everyone drools over. Point forward with size and solid defensive skills. Unfortunately those guys don't pan out all that often. I have him just outside the lottery. I like the idea of him more than the actual version of him right now.

meh counting stats. meh efficiency. all against a pretty trash schedule.
i think people like the idea of avdalas and what they hope he'll be more than what he is at this point. not to mention he's an old frosh who will turn 20 at the beginning of frebruary.

it hasn't been a trash schedule. They've already played Providence (7-5 in Big East), South Carolina (7-3 in SEC), George Mason (10-1 1st in A10) and St. Mary's (9-2 in WCC). This is one of the tougher non-conference schedules tbh.
Reed Sheppard, the Thompson twins, Miller and so many others were older Frosh but that didn't seem to scare many away

you could make this statement about pretty much any draft prospect. Very seldom do guys come into the league with no weeknesses or question marks. Every single guy in this draft has at least one concern or point of improvement.
Even projected number 1 Peterson has four right now: injury prone, low assist numbers, doesn't get to the line and looks like he's coasting

Peterson gets to the line as often as Neo and has a BPM of 18.7 compared to 5.7 for Neo. They aren't comparable.
Neo needs to be productive in the conference games to get into the top 10 conversation.
ESPN has him 23 on their big board. Tankathon also has him at 23 on their latest mock.

I am aware of the consensus. FWIW nbadraftroom has him at 9 as of this week. It is still very early in the process. For me the fun part is identifying guys like Avdalas who are making big jumps and have a lot to offer.
FWIW, I wasn't comparing Peterson's foul draw rate to Avdalas but to expectations for a leading guard with superstar expectations. Very limited sample size and he's a smart, hard-working kid but it is something that pops up in the numbers.

I think he's going to look better in the NBA than in college. His ability to push the ball and make plays at speed with his passing vision is going to set him apart from other wings. The main thing to watch are the shooting signals. His potential as a three-levels guy with plus length gives him a high ceiling.
I think he's likely to go top 10.

Damn…Kings need this guy. Tank needs to roll on.
WTF is up with draft boards having him outside the lotto? That’s nuts. Those moves and shots are filthy.

I think he can be considered the de facto Franz Wagner of this draft.

Esshh. Franz was certainly a cut above. Franz was 6 months younger and showed far more defensive aptitude. Additionally, Avdalas light up Providence & Western Carolina...and has been unimpressive otherwise. Franz neve scored more than 21 points, but he was consistent every game and put up good stat lines against good teams.
Again, I like Avdalas, but he aint Franz

Anyone watching the game today? I haven't started watching yet but his statline is ugly.

So conference play has started and in two games he's not doing much out there aside from getting some assists. He needs to pick it up.

This guy is not it. Dropped 30 against the ultimate cupcake and fooled some people.

Can't shoot at all. Looks like his confidence is broken. A sub 50% TS at his size is bad.

you can't teach his size and elite passing and ability to run an offense. It's rare stuff. His shot is broken but similar guys who couldn't shoot like Avdija, Demin and GIddey all went top 8. I don't think his coach is doing him any favors sitting him for long stretches and playing him off ball.

Wherever he gets drafted, it’s gonna be 5 spots higher than it would have been because of Deni.
That’s a really tough development progression to emulate, though. He’ll go in the first off projection, maybe even in the teens, but he looks more like a smallish shot at a steal than anything super special. Fun skill set, though.

His TS is at 48% now, yikes. His rebound and block numbers are low given his size. His BPM is 2.7. Red flags everywhere.
