Searched for a thread for this monster and was surprised to find none, maybe because he won't be drafted until 2028. I can't remember ever being more sure when watching the highlights of a 17 year old American big man for the first time that they were a future #1 overall pick.



Duke's luck in having this guy for two seasons instead of one is obscene.

So he can play for duke but wont be eligible for the draft after his first season?

Yes, because you must be 19 years old to be draft eligible and Boumtje-Boumtje will have turned 18 just the month before the 2027 draft.

I love how he has turned up these past couple weeks, really just want him to get a little more physical

Cooper Flagg (born 12/21/06) was eligible for the 2025 draft by ten days because he turned 19 that year. He obviously played in the league for a couple of months at age 18 as a result.

Boumtje-Boumtje (born 5/30/09) doesn’t turn 19 until 2028, and will be 19 before the draft, but still can’t come out earlier by NBA rule.

There has to be a cutoff somewhere, and JBB isn’t even close. But he is college eligible, having completed his requirements in Spain, so Duke gets him for two years unless he randomly decides to do something different after his first season.

I always remember it by this

Eligible is everyone whos last digit of the birth year is draft year +1
So if draft year is 2026, then anyone born in 2007 is eligible. 2030 is 2011. 2028 is 2009 and so on. Boumtje Boumtje is 2009 so his draft year is 2028

I kind of love the wave of guys that seem to be coming that aren’t like super explosive run jump guys, but play big, skilled, cerebral, power games.

For all the talk of the NBA being better than ever, the top of the league is going to be lacking all tbose high fliers and poster guys we’re used to, and we’re gonna have a bunch of big, below the rim, ballhandler types carrying the league. I love it.

From what I remember, he was one of those guys that was a pretty good run jump athlwte for a big, but not skilled or aware enough to really make it pop. Bit of a stiff. No where near the fluidity and agility or functional basketball strength of Joaquim

My post was no knock on JBB. When i started watching basketball, the best wings in the league were Jordan, Drexler, Pippen, Wilkins… the 4’s was Charles, Karl Malone, Kemp, Webber, and the C’s were Hakeem, Robinson and Shaq.

Being near the top of your position was almost always freak of nature athletes. I’d say right now that 3 of the top 5 players are below the rim guys. It’s remarkable. Not a knock on the league or those guys at all.
