Worst draft pick in the last 10 years.

I would go with darko.
I have rooted for every year. They passed on melo, bosh, wade, kaman. I know players like wade at the time weren't even a top 5 projection, but could you imagine the pistons if they took any of those, if they wanted a front court player say bosh. IMAGINE THE PISTONS.

What would you say was the worst lottery pick?

Kandi was a badpickbut he played a number of years and was a serviciable backup. There are a few other skita a denver pick at #5, frederic weis, rafael araujo, luke jackson, yaroslev korolev, kedrick brown, jerome moiso, darko. No doubt kandi was a bad pick but there have been worse. But these guys listed are worse.

Kandi and Darko are both bad solely because of where they were picked. Both of them had servicable years where they were at least solid players. Darko still has the opportunity to improve even. They simply were not deserving of their spots when much better players were drafted soon after.

As far as just plain being horrible, Araujo and Skita come instantly to mind. Never even became rotation players out of the lottery.

Has to be Darko, just based on who was drafted after him. (Melo, Wade, Bosh).

I know Todd Fuller was drafted in 1996, but that was a pretty horrible pick too with guys like Ilguaskas, Nash, J. O'neal and Kobe selected after him. Hell even Derek Fisher :D

Stop with the Darko crap

There was ONE PLAYER who might possibly have been taken ahead of Darko at the time (by EVERY GM in the league), and that was Carmelo...Bosh was never an option, Wade was never an option, Kaman, Hinrich, Josh Howard, whoever, was never an option, so stop with the "Oh man imagine the pistons with Wade" or whatever

Now for the question

How is Darko a worse pick than SKita? Skita was given minutes right off the bat in his first season, and sucked it up...Darko didnt get any minutes...Darko >>>>> Skita

Araujo was also a really bad pick...

1999 11th pick - Trajan Langdon

2001 8th pick - DeSagana Diop - The Cavaliers had Joe Johnson on a silver platter and decided to draft a HS kid who they knew was 50lbs overweight with a broken foot and had been playing the sport for less than 2 years and even after watching him score 8pts and foul out in a game against St. Vincent St. Mary (who had this kid named L. James) being guarded by a 6'3 kid.

I restricted mine to top 5 picks and I came up with 3 Bender, Fizer, and Skita.

Bender and Skita drafted solely off potential and shouldn't have been lottery picks much less top 5. Bender was an unknown commodity that had a good showing at the McDonalds all american game so GMs wanted to catch lightning in a bottle....... didn't happen.

Skita lucked out on the Euro craze hey can't fault him for that.

Fizer was a horrible pick because Jerry Krause thought there was a secret deal between Orlando and LAC for Miles so he picked Fizer to thwart the deal........... yeah there was no deal so he put his team back in the lotto again for being an idiot.

Dajuan Wagner is by far the worse cause international players carry the risk that their game doesn't transfer into the NBA, but Wagner went to college, left early and then proceeded to suck big time in the NBA.

Bender suffered from a lot of injuries...he would have been a decent player otherwise....Skita was a much worse pick than Bender

Bit unfair on Wagner, the guy nearly died of an Ulcerated Colon

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dajuan_Wagner

he averaged 13ppg in his rookie year

Marvin Williams over CP3 and Deron Williams, when all is said and done, will go down as the worst.

BS on Wagner, health problems ruined his career but he would have been a stud if he were healthy. Same for Jason Williams.

No mention of Kwame? He's not as bad as Kandi (who just squeaks into the "last 10 years" category) but he was a terrible #1 pick who continues to vastly underachieve his enormous potential.

Meh. If you're going by hindsight I guess. But Darko looked like he was a legit 2-3 pick in that draft. The majority of GM's would have picked him there so I wouldn't say he was a bad draft pick so much as Darko's just a bust.

Worst draft pick I think Rafael Araujo has to be mentioned. He had no buisness being picked where he did especially with Iggy still on the board.

It's Darko, and it's not even close. The 2003 draft was possibly the best draft year ever - it was virtually impossible to miss, and the Pistons still managed to pick a crap player at 2nd overall. Look at the next 6 picks after Darko:

Carmello Anthony
Chris Bosh
Dwyane Wade
Chris Kaman
Kirk Hinrich
TJ Ford

The 6 picks after Kwame were Tyson Chandler, Pau Gasol, Eddy Curry, J Rich, Shane Battier and Eddie Griffin - not nearly as good as the above 6. And after Kandi man the next 6 were Bibby, LaFrentz, Antawn Jamison, Vince Carter, Robert Taylor and Jason Williams. Detroit should have has a roughly franchise player in Melo, Bosh, Wade or Kaman, but they ended up with a completely useless player in Darko.

Darko will end up being a better player than Ford and Kirk so not sure why they are on the list.
