If Kevin Love Were Black....

Would he be a top-10 lock at any point he decided to declare?

17/11/2, 58% from the floor, 75% from the line, in 29 mpg as a freshman. Those are beastly numbers.

Is this a joke?

Kevin Love's race has nothing to do with his NBA projection. If anything people would WANT a white player to succeed because it heightens the popularity of the league.

Kevin Love's problem is length/athleticism that separates players at the next level.

It's why Shelden Williams wasn't made for the NBA. It has nothing to do with race.

BTW, Kevin Love is still getting Love as a lottery pick if Im not mistaken

Brook Lopez a WHITE guy is projected as a top 3-5 pick.

BJ Mullens a WHITE guy is projected as a top 3-5 pick in next year's draft

It has nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with perceived upside due to length/athleticism

There might be no player this year to whom measurements are more important. If he's a true 6'10 and not much above 250, top 10 is not out of the question. But if appearances are correct and he's somewhere around 6'8 270+, its going to hurt him.

I'll be honest, if there were two players and they were exactly the same except one was white and the other was black then I'd be more inclined to take the black one. Haha don't ask me why but that's just the way it is.

If Kevin Love was whiter, he would be Tyler Hansbrough.

He will get drafted outside of the top 10 because of his limited potential, not his skin color. He looks great in college, and he definitely has excellent post skills, but he is short for his position (looks 6'8" to 6'9"), doesn't have long arms, is a bit overweight, and is not a particularly special athlete. He is exactly the kind of player who looks awesome until he has to play against 6'11" power forwards in the NBA. My guess is he tops out as a solid bench player/weak starter once he makes it to the big league.

very good question that can posed with lots of players. In Love's case, I think another poster hit the nail on the head- he'd be glen davis. He would not be a lottery pick, he'd be a project. Realize, there just aren't many white post players averaging double doubles for big time institutions. I absolutely believe he is a little overhyped and will not project to similar success in the NBA.

I see Kevin Love as Nick Collison but with less athleticism.

I would be stunned if he wasn't drafted in the top 10.

He has some of the best hands i've ever seen

He's going to do fine in the draft wherever he goes

He is like a very poor man's Chris Webber imo. If he had more athleticism he would be a C-Webb type of player.

Did Love get injured?

Kevin Love is the next Reggie Evans... Ok, that was a bit harsh, but he will look very different with someone like Rasheed Wallace covering him. I think the Sean May comparison is just about right.

May has hops and a bad knee over Love. Love has smarts and a 50 foot outlet pass over May. If May can go in the Lottery, Love can too.

Exactly. And remember that May had a much bigger weight problem when he was a frosh. Love's also a better passer and a much better outside shooter. And I was a May fan. Nobody in today's game throws an outlet pass like Love. You have to go back to Wes Unseld to find someone better.

I like Love. He has solid fundamentals and is a fantastic passer out of the post. His lack of size and athleticism will hurt him in the NBA, but I think he'll be better than Reggie Evans, easy.

I don't get the Reggie Evans comparison at all - Love is a much better offensive player. The only similarity I see is that they are both undersized 4s that can rebound, but that can be said about A LOT of players.

Paul Millsap is a pretty high floor...
