Hey I've got a few questions about Portland's draft and I'd like to see what some people think... Looking at the current mock drafts I see a consensus around four players recommended for Portland at the 13th pick. If you were Portland's GM and had the chance to pick between: Nicolas Batum, Anthony Randolph, Russell Westbrook, and Darren Collison (assuming they all enter) who would you pick. Two other things, do you think that D.J. Augustine will still be on the board around the 13th pick? Finally, do you think any teams from picks 6-8 would trade their pick for Jarrett Jack and the 13th or the 13th and a couple 2nd rounders? Thanks for all the input!

Moving up in the draft is generally quite costly - going from 13th to 6-8th will take more than Jarrett Jack or a couple 2nd rounders. I do like the idea of Portland moving up a couple spots to snag Augustin, though he might actually be available at 13th.

portland wants to move up by maybe taking a bad contract from milwaukee and their pick 8 and we would give someone like lafrentz(expiring),13th pick and webster or jack. the blazers want to get Mayo, but im not sure he would be there at 8, if not portland could get bayless or gordan to pair next to roy

Stay put, a SF will be there.

i think we need a point guard more than a small foward

If Portland stays at 13 then they probably look for a sf. Batum or Buddinger (or some other big wing option) would be the likely choices.

I expect Portland to try and package some assets to upgrade their pg (which next to Roy can be a combo guard type as well) position. This might be done in a non-draft related deal (which leaves Portland likely picking a sf at 13). Or it could be done by moving up in the draft.

Some combination of Jack, Webster, Sergio, Outlaw, Frye and taking back salary for LaFrentz's EC could used to move up to the 5-7 range to get Mayo or Bayless. It wouldn't be just Jack, it would be 2-4 young players - possibly in 2 moves with 1 or 2 guys used to get to the 9-10 range, then another 1-2 guys used to get to the 5-7 range.

I fully expect Portland to package their own pick with a player and move up to grab one of outstanding combo guards in the draft. Mayo, Bayless and Gordon would all be great next to Roy.

There's probably nobody at #13 who will help the team. Either trade up or trade out.

I think Outlaw + 13th would be enough to move up to 6th, where they would likely need to be to draft one of Gordon, Mayo or Bayless. I don't think any of Jack, Sergio or Frye are enough. Would the Blazers do it?

If they stay healthy, that is an extremely nice looking team. If they don't want to give up Outlaw, I see them staying at around 13th (or maybe moving up to 10th or so, which would be a fair bit cheaper), and taking Augustin or a SF.

Bayless would be perfect next to Roy.

I think they're fine where they're at. They can go after more of a project player with tons of potential like Randolph or most likely have 2/3 of Lawson, Collison, and Augustine still on the board.

I will be extremley pissed if the Blazers draft Anthony Randolph.

Anot that he is going to be a bad player, but I just dont want this team to draft another guy like Outlaw/Webster and have to wait 4 years before he can be a solid contributer.

a floor general like darren collison would be great for them. theyd have a guy besides roy that could really take care of the rock for them.

God no.

Portland's in a fun predicament. There's an obvious first tier of prospects that features two players (Beasley and Rose) and a second tier that features three (Bayless, Brook Lopez, Jordan). From there, the third tear has about 10 players, and Portland will likely get to pick from any of those ten. Moving up may be possible but there are no guarantees either way.

This is, of course, neglecting the fact that the Blazers have three second-rounders, including two that are most assuredly in the top 5 picks in the second round. Another fun day will commence.

Why would you guys want a combo guard?

I'd have assumed you'd be looking at a pure PG or a SF. Def have the assets to move up though.

Brandon Roy is a great play maker at the 2, so you want someone who can score and make a handful of plays himself (a combo guard). If you get a pure PG, you are either putting the ball in the PG's hands all the time, and somewhat wasting Roy, or you're giving the ball to Roy half the time, and somewhat wasting your pure point.
Plus there are just a lot of good combo guards in this draft.

I think Mayo would be an ideal fit then, correct?

Scores, can make plays, shoot and handle the ball, plays good D.

mayo woluld be at the top of my list he can do it all, i just hope if the blazers are able to trade down to 6-8 he is there but i could see him being drafted at 3-5
