explain this to me

how come in ncaa basketball the clock will continue to run at the end of the first half after a bucket is scored but it will stop late in games after a bucket is scored?

Its ridiculous that a team will score with 6-8 seconds left in the first half and sometimes the team who gets scored on cant even get the ball inbounded before the time runs out.
