Is this Caracter draftable?
Well is he? He seems really overweight and a headcase. That's all I know, Ive never seen him play.

I said at the start of the season that I would want him in the mid-late first round (19-25 range, only because of weight issues) and I stand by that. He's a pro, definately. There's risk involved, but he's so much better than his numbers and reputation show.
I don't like the Eddy Curry comparisons. The whole assist/turnover ratio and the myth about him being a terrible passer and black hole I attribute to the fact he was never given decent minutes and the team always went away from him - he forced things and tried to get his because of this. Remember he was a top recruit coming out of high school and was coming off a great performance against Greg Oden in the ABCD camp. It's a similar issue with Tyrus Thomas - he plays great one game, then is banished to the bench for 10 games, get's another chance, does well but nothing becomes of it.
I wouldn't call Derrick a Chris Webber type passer, but I'd say he's at least average if not better for an NBA post player. He understands the game well, it's just frustration caught him at Louisville.
The weight issues are risky, if this was not a problem I wouldn't have a problem with taking him in the mid-late lottery, and if he recieved 30+ mins at Louisville like most top recruits do I bet alot of analysts would think the same.
I see him as an Al Jefferson with some mid range NBA skill and lackluster defence. Maybe a cross between Antoine Walker's skillset (meaning a big guy with decent ballhandling ability and long range - just not as far out as Walkers) and Al Jefferson's.
If he falls into the mid second round, someone is going to have quite a suprise on their roster.

Terrible hands, questionabe body and work ethic, trouble finishing. He simply has to stay in school.
Body and worth ethic, yes.
But terrible hands and trouble finishing? How many times have you watched him play?
The guy has fantastic hands (showed them again today) and is particularly skilled with his back to the basket (and facing up close to the rim for that matter), his touch downlow and in midrange is great. He's pretty damn effecient downlow - now that may change on the next level - but right now he has no trouble getting his shot off and making it near the rim.

I have seen him plenty. He misses point blank shots in the paint and fumbles the ball around a ton.

Caracter has great hands, and loves contact down low. When he misses bunny shots, it's usually because there isn't any contact and he doesn't know what to do. He draws fouls well and is massively strong. His relative shortness, probably 6'8.5 with shoes or so, shouldn't be a problem on the offensive end.
He's definitely got issues though, and could end up in a Zach Randolph situation (Zach's definitely the best comparison). If he comes back for his junior year, I think Pitino will get through to him. He made progress this year, convincing him to put the team first and actually focus on winning rather than personal accolades. Far from being in a bad situation, he's probably in the only situation where he can come out as a good pro. Padgett's leadership hasn't hurt either.

I think that has helped him the most in more ways than one. Padgett was out for a spell and that seems to have helped quite a bit as well. That whole Louisville team is a completely different sqaud then the team that started the season. They really struggled a bit before they got into conference play.

I would personally stay away from him. He has had everyone pulling for him to fill that unlimited potential he had, and has done nothing but wasted it. The kid could be a top 10 pick if he would have lost his weight and actually cared about developing his game. He has taken a fall straight down hill since his High School days. He is such a waste of a talent.

No team should waste a pick on him, but I think multiple teams will line up to sign him on their summer league.
One of those players, "Don't want to take a risk on but I'd love to bring him in just in case he works things out." I predict he'll actually get close to making a roster (maybe making a team's preseason roster) before being cut due to character issues.
