Why is Earl Clark so underrated?

almost no one talks about this guy being a mid first round pick but you hear names like Tyler Smith, Brandon Rush, Donte Green etc and you could make a argument Clark is just as good and has higher upside then at least 2 of those 3 (Smith and Rush).

Probably because he didn't really meet the expectations in his sophomore season... IMO, on offense, he looked as raw as he had ever been, even though he made noticeable improvements on his rebounding and post game.

He needs to stay for one more season. He has good potential, but he needs to utilize them fully. He has amazing passing abilities, and needs to showcase that as often as he can.

Yeh i agree I have never heard of him but im watching him play right now and i really like him.He is finishing strong with dunks and hes very very long.Yahoo has him listed as a Guard-Forward, does anybody know if he can play Guard on the NBA level. But he definately needs to stay in school but by next year he should be a late lottery type of player

Underachieved this year pretty much, Boris Diaw clone though. He's pretty skilled and should be good next year starting with Samuels. I think Louisville has just had way too much depth this year to give Clark any room to show off his skills.

I have never been much of a believer in Earl Clark, but what he did tonight against Tennessee was just sick. More than any other player, Clark was the reason they blew Tennessee off the court. Clark blocked everything in sight and scored every way imaginable. He had an all around game you just don't often see against a team like Tennessee. This game may have solidified him as a first round pick if he chooses to leave.

He reminds me more of Josh Smith with less explosiveness than Diaw.

edit: I meant to say he reminds me of Josh Smith but with less explosiveness than Smith more than he reminds me of Diaw.

Less explosiveness then Diaw?

Id say Clark is easily more fluid/athletic/explosive when you compare him to Boris Diaw.

The talent is there. Like most talented players, it's all about work ethic and bball IQ, does he have it? It remains to be seen. If he declares he'll be a first round lock, a team like the raptors would have to take him, he's exactly the type of player they need (athletic slasher, who can defend and give them some toughness).

My bad I meant less explosiveness than Smith. I'll edit it now. But like you said he's easily more fluid/athletic/explose than Diaw, also longer and a bit taller. Which is why I compared him to a less athletic J Smith.

Dude's not a slasher any more, and he certainly can't play guard at either the college or NBA level. He might be able to see spot minutes at SF, but he'll probably be a true PF.

He grew from 6'7" to 6'10 last year, and he's spent all year learning to play as a big man. To say that he's underperformed expectations this year is a bit crazy -- maybe you were thinking ot Terrence Williams, who has underperformed a bit? T. Williams looked great lst summer, and people thought he would explode offensively this year, but he just couldn't put it together.
