Anthony Randolph??

Post#1 » by SRSM » Mon Mar 31, 2008 8:41 pm

Mock Drafts show Anthony Randolph as moving up fast. What do people that have seen him play think of him?

I wouldn't pick him top 20 in this year's draft. The mocks are overrating him.

There's no way he falls out of the top 20. No way.

He's nowhere near ready to play in the Association. If he stays another year in college and develops, he'd be much better off - as a player and probably financially.

He's only 18, and it shows - he's physically undeveloped, takes bad shots, doesn't have much range on his jumper, etc. BUT if you can afford to wait a few years before asking him to seriously contribute, he has huge upside. You can't teach wingspan and athleticism, and you can't really teach the handles and finishing ability with both hands he has for his size. I don't see him falling out of the lottery.

Explain to me how staying in college helps you financially?

he could raise his draft stock which would lead to getting picked higher which equals more money

His stock could plummet next year due to poor play . Look at Roy Hibbert . Also he could get injured .

^There is also the matter of college seasoning improving a players overall career. Its not just a matter of where he is drafted.

Never made sense to me...

If you were a world class, young violin player...do you think you would improve more from 24 hour training from the best instructors in your field or 20 hours a week from your college music teacher?

There is absolutely no evidence that staying in college makes you a better player, in fact, looking at the All Star, Team USA, MVP, etc., all signs point to the opposite.

No evidence that staying in college helps?

Depends on the player right? It really benefits some players, others are so physically gifted (Shaq, D Howard, etc...in a different way, Kobe, Anthony, Lebron) that college probably doesn't help.

Anyway, can someone describe what Randolph does on the court that makes him worth a lottery pick? Or find any video for him?

You're saying he's going to get drafted way too high, so he should go back to school so he can get drafted higher? Doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe he -shouldn't- get drafted in the top 10, but he's going to be, and that's reason enough to come out of school. He shouldn't return to school based on where he -should- be drafted, but where he -projects- to be drafted. Someone will take a flier on him in the top 10. See Wright, Brandon.

I don't know, I think he's a lock for the 1st round and once workouts are done with (which he should look great at) he'll probably be a lock for the lottery. If anything maybe if he flubs early it'll cost him money down the road but he's getting his multi-million guaranteed contract even if he leaves now IMHO.

i agree that randolph should be top 20 but to points out to the dude above me, brandon wright was projected as the #3 pick, not some pick in the late single digits where hes taken as a flier

Ahh...but had Randolph played at UNC (like Wright) instead of long since forgotten LSU how much would his value increase?

The NBA draft committee which consults with the underclassmen have already told him he would be a lottery pick. Depending on team needs and workouts--he can go anywhere from 3-10 imho.
