Whats the Best Type of team to put around Rose? UNLV 1991?

We all know that teams in rebuilding situations place free-agents around their top draftees to build a team in the mold of their superstar.. When they got Magic they got him athletes to fill the lane and finish w/ him.. When they got Bird, they got guys that could draw doubles and play defense.. When they got Jordan they based it on being a GREAT defensive team.. They havent really given LeBron what he needs in terms of an identity around his team.. With Dwight Howard they put numerous shooters around him..

With Rose im not too sure, i think you should build your team around his playmaking on the fast break off your defense.. I think a team like the Grizzlies would be a nice place for him to go, as they have cap space to put a josh smith or an igoudala with Rudy Gay to cause hell in the passing lanes.. imagine 6'4/6'9/6'9 and maybe a brewer for Conley trade.. i think a team that defends would be ideal around Rose as that will be his best asset in the future..

your thoughts?

I was thinking that the Hawks or Blazers would be great fits for Rose.

Yea, the team i thought was the Hawks immediately.. Do you think there is any way for them to acquire Derrick Rose? What would they have to give up? Would they give up Joe Johnson to a team like the Wolves/Heat? Josh Smith?

I doubt they will be able to acquire Rose. And if they had to give up any of those pieces such as Johnson or Josh Smith, Rose wouldn't be as much of an asset to that team. It's just wishful thinking that he could step in at the 1 and run with that team.

Same thing goes for Portland.

Oh and don't forget about Denver, AI, Melo and D.Rose would be crazy!!!!

As far as I can remember, no one has successfully built a championship team around a PG like Rose. The closest I can think of are the Pistons of a few years back and the Bad Boys Pistons, and both of those were balanced teams, moreso than building around any one player.

So I'm not sure it's really feasible to build a championship team around a PG. A better approach is probably building a championship team around another type of player(s), and find a top-tier PG who would complement him.

That being said, I think Rose would best fit into more of a half-court system. Obviously a fastbreaking athletic team would give him more guady stats (it always does for a PG). But he's not a top-level passer that works so well in fastbreak basketball. Rather, he has such great size and quickness he can create extremely well individually.

He'd be great in a system where the offense flowed entirely through him, creating himself and finishing, or driving and dishing. His 1-on-1 breakdown skills would go largely unused in fastbreak basketball.

Why could you not do something like what they do with Nash in PHX, where they fast break with the ball in his hands (he isnt the passer nash is, but nash wasnt the passer nash was coming into the league)..

what i think is not mentioned a lot is they didnt use many pick and rolls at memphis which is Rose's best offensive set, he reads them really well.. i think that he will look like Paul or Nash if he has a PF/C that can shoot and finish like West and Stoudemire..

Man if he were to get Beasley or Griffin to pair it could be tough for teams.... lol pick and pop all day

Ideal team around Rose would have to be much like what the Sonics put around Gary Payton in the mid 90's. A strong physical and athletic team with a few shooters to space the floor for his dribble drives.

I think he'll be a very productive scoring PG but the true value of Derrick Rose is his defense, I expect him to be a 20+PPG, 8 APG, 4+ RPG, 2+ SPG guy who makes up for a lack of shooting by getting to the line.

I think he'll be compareable to Wade on a smaller scale in terms of scoring but also lower turnover totals. His true shooting percentages will likely tell the story of just how good he'll be. If he gets the TS% up in the .550-.565 range he'll be a truely elite player.

Minnesota has that nice Al Jefferson kid. Also Randy Foye to shoot the open jumper.

SF that can run the floor, moves well without the ball and can finish
PF that can stretch the floor and rebound his position.
C with post skills that can draw a double team

I agree with that, the ideal situation would be that the great shooting sg was also a really good defender.

like what we are describing would be like Rose with Corey Brewer (who developed a really good jumper-raja bell type jumper), a SF like a maggette or a marvin williams or artest a PF like Sheed and a C- Like Kaman
