Is Beasley on the same level as LeBron James?

Post#1 » by AnSweR07 » Wed May 21, 2008 1:57 am

OKay you have to look at this w/o hindsight, not knowing what we know now of LeBron James and everything he's accomplished. Becasue I remember when James was coming out of hs he had alot of naysayers. Anyways Beasley is hyped as a special talent and what hes done in college says volume in itself. So my question is Beasley same level talent as LeBron James?

Lebron is on pace to be a top 5-10 player all-time.

Completely unfair comparison to either player as of now.

But I do think Beasley def has potential to have a Lebron level impact in terms of being a star within 1.5 years in the league.

Beasley (the prospect) vs LeBron (the prospect) is a worse athlete with a worse handle, a worse defender, and a far worse passer.

Lebron was also considered a poor defender...
and of course he had a better handle and passing ability! He was being pimped as a PG! Beasley is a F tweener, more likely a PF.

I'd say that Lebron was hyped far more, but it's close. Earlier this year it was all about OJ Mayo, but that *quickly* changed to Beasley. The spotlight only turned to Rose when it became apparent how good his team was and, probably, was helped by the emergency of Chris Paul.

Lebron is a 5x better athlete. Stronger, more explosive, more everything. He is the most unstoppable player in the league now and that ain't gonna change. Comparing a mere mortal like Beasley is silly and foolish

This isn't the sort of question that you can pose to the average basketball mind because the average person can't REMOVE form their mind all of what Lebron has already accomplished in the NBA and just simply compare Lebron as an NBA prospect to Beasley the NBA prospect. With that said Lebron the NBA prospect was much better than Beasley because he had elite passing ability and unmatched athleticism. Beasley is just really a scorer and rebounder I wouldn't count his college shot blocking as a skill just yet. But in Lebron's case he had all of the perimeter skills with his passing ability being the most special. Sure he wasn't a pure shooter at age 18 and he isn't right now but it's unrealistic to expect a scorer/playmaker to also be an elite outside jump shooter. Jordan was never an elite outside shooter and Kobe JUST developed that ability.

LeBron was the best NBA prospect since I have been paying attention to the NBA. Better than Shaq, Duncan, Jordan...

There is a Beasley level prospect in every draft, he is not even on the level of Oden or Durant.

Agreed, although I'd argue he could be just as good as Durant.

Only Shaq and Ewing (and maybe Duncan) had the same hype as LeBron.

Jordan had less hype. Iverson had less hype. Kobe had less hype. Garnett had less hype. Etc.

Beasley has some hype but not even as much as, say, Chris Webber. Don't get me wrong, I love Beasley, but he's not on LeBron's level of hype.

And to "SendEm", I think most people are able to look at this without having clouded opinions due to LeBron's dominance in the league. Anyone with half a brain can look at this without the benefit of retrospect.

Don't understand why people are saying Durant was on another level than Beasley... Beasley has an NBA body and a much more rounded offensive game. Better rebounder as well. Both aren't anything to write about defensively and Durant is a better shooter. I expect Beasley to have a more productive rookie year than Durant.

BEASLEYS hype is like taryn thomas, aldridge hype...not many standout from the pack

lmao. LeBron James was the consensus #1 pick in his freshman year in HS. That's how ridiculous of a prospect he was--for good f'n reason too. Not sure that we'll see a player of that caliber emerge into the NBA with that much talent, hype and expectations for a good while, if ever.

You're absolutely right with that, but...

Not nearly as good as LeBron James, tho.

Because Durant is a 6'10'' SG and Beasley is an undersized PF with big time skills. Which of those 2 do you think show up in every draft?

assuming ur talking about before lebron was drafted...

no he isnt lebron coming out of HS had an NBA ready body, amazing athleticism, pg court vision. he was truly a great prospect, he would of been a great prospect even if he was 6'0.

beasly is about on durants level maybe a bit higher in terms of prospects
