Trent Plaisted
Jonathan G, can you please give me your asessment of this player. Why is this the first time i've ever heard of him?
Chad Ford has him going to the Celtics in his latest mock. I've checked some video's and Dickie V heralds him as "the best bigman you've never heard off!". Is he a solid pick for the Celtics?

I'm a BYU grad (Trent's school) and I've seen quite a bit of him. All I can say, is stay as far away from him as you can. He'll probably have a decent carreer overseas, but he's just not a good NBA prospect. As bad as the MWC was this year, he should have completely dominated, but he often took a back seat to lesser players.

he got big hype for playing hansbrough pretty evenly early in the season, but he's just not very good. He's got pretty decent athleticism for his size, but he absolutely disappears against really bad opponents.
I suppose if he develops his game a LOT and toughens up, he could have a journeyman career.
he'll make money somewhere, but he'll never be a starter in the NBA.

Another BYU fan here who has seen Plaisted several times...
BYU has two players from last year's team in the draft. One (Plaisted) is getting all the attention - invited to Orlando, etc, the other is Lee Cummard - the MWC player of the year.
I will simply say this - Cummard >>>>>>>>> Plaisted. It really isn't close.

Trent plaisted
I have seen plaisted play and thought he has some skills. I saw they had the C's picking him I think he has a promise fom them and heres maybe why. Danny Ainge son played at BYU with Plaisted and i'm sure gave Danny some insight on him. Danny has seen BYU play and he possibly may have more insight on trent than any player in the draft. We are in need of a backup big and we also have the best bigman coach in Clifford ray who has done wonders with perkins, powe, and big baby. The guy will be a solid rotation guy after year or two and that is good for the #30 pick. You can't expect an all star at #30 it is rare. When I look at Plaisted he compares to say andrew declerq who was a good backup center for many years though Trent is much more athletic.

Cummard reminds me of a poor man's Andrei Kirilenko. Very atheltic and lengthy, but he may have a lil more offensive prowess than AK has. But AK is and will always be the better player between the two.

He's listed as a junior and in 2009 mock on DX...

Is it possible that he's expected to return to school?

Plaisted does not appear to have the tools to ever figure as a starter but there is enough tools+skills for him to get some role. Look at some of the C types tagged as rd 1. Jordan and R Lopez couldn't average 10 pt a game...are a few years from having the stuff to even play much off the bench. Rd 1? Well....the end of rd 1 the Celts would be looking toward who might fill a role and Plaisted does not have as many big holes in his game as many of the bigs apt to be there.
CENSORED... No comment.

plaisted solid backup to perk
I like plaisted for the celtics he would be a good backup to perk. He compares perfectly statistically to Dan Gadzuric. both Trent and Gadzuric aren't good free throw shooters and they aren't tremendous shot blockers but both bring energy and can score. Plaisted also reminds me of joe kleine a solid backup center on the celtics in the 80's to robert parish. i'll take that with the last pick of the first round. It is imperative that Trent improve his free throw shootingor he will lose playing time like GAdzuric does.
