Who is targeting whom?

Post#1 » by GJense4181 » Fri May 30, 2008 1:17 am

Simple enough. What rumors have you heard? What do the writers think? What has the front office indicated?

Does Chicago prefer Beasley or Rose?
Does Minnesota prefer Lopez, Love, or Mayo?
Seattle? Do they *really* love Jerryd Bayless?
How high could Joe Alexander rise? DeAndre Jordan?
What is the lowest that Eric Gordon or Danilo Gallinari can fall?

I feel that if we centralize some of these reported preferences it will be much easier to make our mock drafts.

I'll start: My team, the Detroit Pistons (or at least general manager Joe Dumars), have alleged interest in Lester Hudson and Mario Chalmers, despite Chauncey Billups and Rodney Stuckey being our top two point guards. He feels that no player at #29 can contribute immediately, and is likely to opt for a project and/or a player that can be kept overseas. We're hoping for ANY of the available centers or Bill Walker/Brandon Rush, if they fall, and that the scouting reports are smokescreens. None of us believe the draftexpress story about a promise to DJ White.

The media here in NYC seems to love the idea of Gallinari. I think it's only because he's Italian like D'Antoni and is the son of a former teammate. I want Mayo but will be happy with EG.

Looks like the front runners for the Nets are Kevin Love , Anthony Randolph and Darrell Arthur . Gallinari also looks like he has drawn interested from the Nets .

Some others guys have sheduled workouts as well but these 4 are the likeliest candidates if Dave D. isn't suddenly starting to write crap .

For the others pick there are alot of players invited not that clear whos going to get picked there.

All I know is Cavs:

They have eyes on a few unspecified bigs in the draft. My thoughts were Donte Greene, or JaVale McGee. They also like Augustin, and Westbrook. That gave me the idea that they may try to trade up for a #6-15 pick.

As far as I have been able to see, the Minnesota FO is split 50-50 over taking Mayo or Lopez. The fans, on the other hand, are in favor of taking Mayo by a fairly wide margin, for whatever that's worth.

Minnesota is smokescreening, which worries me cause the only reason you do that is if you are hoping someone falls (and the top-2 wont) or you are looking to trade. Why cant we just confess an undying love for mayo and move on.

Do that mean:
- you want Batum, or
- many mock drafts have us taking Batum, or
- you have some inside info the rest of us don't have

I haven't seen anything anywhere saying the Raptors are targeting Batum.

I think barring a complete surprise and Miami taking Mayo that the Wolves, when all's said and done, will take Mayo. He's just the best player after Rose and Beasley. And sure the Wolves could use a C but they really aren't at point to pass on BPA for need and Mayo is the BPA at 3.

As far as the Knicks go, Walsh is doing a great job of poker facing just about every attempt by the NY media to determine who the Knicks are really after. Walsh has essentially said they have no idea and will start looking at films and evaluating players soon. To which, you'd have to be an absolute moron to believe that Walsh has no idea about who they like and who they are zoning in on.

Most indications are that Walsh will either go with BPA or look to trade down (that he thinks he can actually get an extra pick and get a player of near equal value that he could at 6). Names mentioned are Galinari though the "rumor" is that neither Walsh nor D'Antoni are particular fond of him. Smokescreen? Quite possibly. There's also talk that Anthony Randolph could be the guy since he probably has the highest upside of the bunch guestimated to go 3-12 and his game fits best with D'Antoni's system and his skill set fits the type of player that Walsh thinks the NBA now is geared towards (long, athletic, multi-talented wings).

Also talk that they are interested in Augustin and Batum.

Sixers supposedly love Speights. I have heard some things about them liking Donte Greene and Brandon Rush as well.

If I were the Pistons, I'd draft Joey Dorsey. He is Ben Wallace all over agin playing wise. No offense, but aggresive, and very good D, and can rebound.
