When do Draft Measurements come out?

Post#1 » by cucad8 » Fri May 30, 2008 7:02 pm

Anyone know when the official measurements come out from orlando?

Changed the title, as I am guessing quite a few clicked in here thinking I had the measurements. Sorry about that.

I'm interested to know this too. To me height is pretty important for draft prospects for some reason; im caught up in the idea that a 6'5 gaurd has an advantage over a 6'4 gaurd and a 6'2 pg has an advantage over a 6'0 pg etc. I think it does play a role in GMs drafting certain players, but only a small percentage of course. Doesnt a 6'5 Eric Gordon sound better than a 6'4 Eric Gordon and a 6'5 OJ mayo sound better than a 6'4 OJ Mayo? Maybe its just me and some of you are saying "its the same player and its just an inch" but like i said im caught up in thinkin that height plays an advantage. I like big 2gaurds and big point gaurds so thats why i'm into heights.

Overrate it too much and Paul Millsap becomes a mid-second rounder. Poor Paul is still making under a mil next year because of it too, while Saer Sene makes 2.25 Million.

Very True. It's differnt for big men though. More and more big men are capable at 6'8 than 6'3-6'4 shooting gaurds i would say.

Great point, although a mil should be more than enough for any player.

Millsap doesn't start. I think at his height, teams may have trouble using him as their primary guy 35 minutes a night, going up against Duncan/Garnett/Boozer/Dirk/etc.

I think if you're drafting a guy to be your longterm starter, you prefer him to have the size to matchup with all the other starters at his position, unless he's a more talented player than those other starters to make up for it.

Hey the draft measurements and stuff should come out either tomorrow or sunday I think. Chad Ford has some comments about it though on ESPN, just observations he made with his eyes(such as saying Augustin was extremely fast during the 3/4 court sprint) or that might've been DraftExpress. I don't remember because it's 4 AM but it's 1 of those 2.

A poster on the Bulls board emailed J. Givony to ask when measurements would be out, and he responded, "sometime in the next 3 days."

EDIT: She emailed him and received a response yesterday (Friday 5.30).

you can kinda gauge how tall mayo is from this vid standing next to bill walker who's 6'6. Douglas Roberts looks about 6'6 1/2

Yeah but seeing how effective Joey Graham has been, I don't really care about the bench press so much anymore . ..

If you're a big man (Interior defense/shotblocking) then standing reach > wingspan. If you're a PG/wing (perimeter defense/steals) then wingspan > standing reach.

Yeah I agree...not too many undersized big men log the heavy minutes for their teams, but theirs always exceptions (Boozer and Brand). Most of the undersized big men are good energy players that come off the bench with a spark and do the dirty work: Leon Powe, Glen Davis, Danny Fortson, Maxiell.

Bulls***.

Beasley is providing the info and therefore you can't trust it. Plus he said 6'8 first and then changed it to 6'8 1/2. I believe the first one is more accurate (although I suppose a half inch doesn't really matter). Anyway I'll give Beasley credit for wanting to play PF in a time when 7-footers want to play shooting guard.
