I haven't seen Whiteside play yet, but his scouting report is similar to Thabeet's last year. Are they similar?

No, Hassan has athleticism and a decent shot...

cole aldrich is the next thabeet...almost similar numbers, both junior in college
aldrich = thabeet?
aldrich = eric montross?
aldrich = greg ostertag?
aldrich was high risk high reward type of player in this coming draft, its like thabeet last year. memphis gamble on thabeet (mutombo or bust?)

no. hes' not like thabeet and neither is aldrich.
hassan's a much more fluid and explosive run jump athlete
aldrich is neither high risk, nor high reward.

No. He's much more athletic and is/will be a better offensive player.

If you mean high risk, high reward then it depends on where he gets drafted. If Thabeet went 10th instead of 2nd he wouldn't be considered overrated or a bust. He'd be what he is, a raw big man that will take time to adapt.
Coincidentally I think Whiteside will be the same. Won't see much more then a role player from him the first few years, but when he gets it he'll be in the running for a MIP

From anyone that's seen him play, how big is Whiteside? I've read reports from 6'11", 215 to 7'1", 240.
Anyone have a guage on his actual height/weight?

I have a hard time buying into all the Whiteside hype....
Just looked at his two recent games against Jerome Jordan, and Tulsa. Compare the two head-to-head. One guy's a supposed lottery pick, the other is a late 1st/early 2nd....
Game 1 on Feb 3 - Tulsa won:
Jordan - 24 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 blocks in 36 minutes
Whiteside - 10 points, 1 rebound, 5 blocks in 25 minutes
Game 2 on Feb 17 - Marshall won:
Jordan - 13 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks in 38 minutes
Whiteside - 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks in 21 minutes
Game 1 clearly went to Jordan. Really surprised to see Whiteside with only 1 rebound....
Game 2 went to Whiteside. Good production in limited minutes....
I have doubts whether Whiteside can effectively play C in the NBA. His rebounding seems to be pretty hit-or-miss.

In terms of size and athleticism, I gotta go KG. To me his size looks very similar to KG coming into the NBA, he also has similar athletic capabilities.

Hassan just needs work. He has the tools to succeed. I think his body-type is more KG-esque but KG was alot more polished entering the league.

^^^That in itself should scare you a little bit...
KG, as a High School senior, was more polished than a 20 year old who has had a year of college ball.

what does that even mean and how is that relevant?
KG was a generation defining prep talent.

he's an interesting prospect. not at all similar to thabeet. both are good inside presence on defense but whiteside probably more mobile and refined (more explosive and smoother). Also has some range though a bad FT shooter.
It'd be best for him to not declare this year though. definitely needs get bigger and has a lot of polishing to do in his game.
