4TH Q: SPURS 93 SUNS 104
We knew what to do but didn't do it.
Everything is harder when you make only 8-44 from 3. But we made only 35-100 overall so we were stuck in shot hell from just about everyone not named Dev who led us with 24 on 10-14 and 4-5 from 3, KJ, and Sochan (welcome back!). He returned with an efficient 14 and 12.
Our other double double was by Wemby who earned his way to 15 and 13 in the second half.
Collins bagel in 14 minutes. Oof. What has he done to get these minutes? Are we trying to shake him into better play so that the contract is more palatable or tradable?
Like I thought Mamu definitely deserved a shot to show his game. He averages 10% more from 3 on more attempts than Collins. 45% from 3 benched on a night when we couldn't make hardly any is a choice...
We outrebounded them, especially on O boards but didn't do enough with second chances either. Just a bloody lid on it.
I thought we could have taken advantage of certain opportunities more. Steph drove at Booker and got that fourth foul on him but we left too much time before he got his fifth. That should have been a target especially considering he was their leading scorer. He only scored 2 points after getting two quick fouls in the 3RD. But then he poured in 12 in the 4TH alone and didn't get his fifth foul until 44 seconds left in the game.
We made 15-20 FTs (Sochan was 4-8, so good that he worked to get to the line but has to reward himself for it better) but again left chances to get more on the court. Teams do this to us all the time. They can't score so they start driving relentlessly and get to the FT line, stop the clock, get a breather, try and get some points that way.
Rotations of who plays or not and who plays with whom continue to be wonky. I get Sochan and Dev returning is a nice challenge and I liked the final five finishing the game - CP3, Dev, Castle, Sochan, Wemby. A first this season.
We just looked like our poor shooting affected our legs and we got out hustled a lot of the time, too, especially after we got to within two but then hit another cold scoring stretch and just couldn't rev up the effort.
Shelve it. Learn. On to the next one.
