Spurs Reportedly Interested in Tyrus Thomas

Post#1 » by Mr.Bottomtooth » Mon Feb 4, 2008 12:52 am

According to Ric Bucher, the Spurs said they want to get more athletic and they've had internal discussions regarding acquiring J.R. Smith or Tyrus Thomas.

I'd love p have a guy like thomas on this team. How about Elson, barry , Mahinmi + 2 1st picks?

this would be great..we don't need a big-time player, so Tyrus Thomas would be fine on this team..he's a great shot blocker, and would finish A LOT better than Elson or Oberto can..

JR Smith would be good too..he's a good shooter, and an explosive finisher..

let's get something done though..

Most realistic trade would be Elson + Mahinmi + Raptors' 2nd rounder for Thomas.

I don't like JR Smith much, and don't know if he'd fit in on this team. I'd just have to wait and see how he'd go as a whole.

Tyrus? Pretty raw, up and down so far (which was expected), but has significant up-side, and has shown well several times. Absolutely get him. He's one of my favorite players, too. His energy and athleticism is great.

Splitter, Tyrus, and Duncan is quite the main big man group for the long-term future.

I'd actually rather keep what we have or go after somebody else than JR Smith.

But, I would guess nothing happens here, and is just Bucher creating something more out of something that is much more casual.

DJHitek wrote:Bucher didn't say the Spurs wanted him, he just said his name as an example of an athletic guy they need. There is no proof that the Spurs want Tyrus, but he was the first name out of Ric's mouth so this could mean Tyrus is on the block.

Magilla_Gorilla wrote:FWIW - Pax mentioned in an interview a couple of weeks ago that he was not looking to trade Tyrus, that the org had not given up on him, and that they knew when they drafted him that he was going to need time to develop.

Pax said that he has spoken to Tyrus several times about the kind of growth that J O'neal went through, and that Tyrus understands he needs to be patient.

IMO - this tells me that the org knows that it is going to take more than 18 months for Tyrus to reach his potential, and that they're not going to just give up on him in his second season.

not sure about tyrus...where does he fit? I really like mahinmi and would rather see what he can do with one more year for our organisation...if we can get him for cheap, then ok, but I cant see chicago do that.

absolutely no interest in jr!!!

btw.: whaaaaaaattt a great suuuhuuuupaaaaboooohooowl-finale....I love it!!! (even while I'm a steelers-fan) boom...what a sack by Alford!

yea thomas would be nice but i dont see the bulls trading him. i dont really want jr smith, he doesnt seem like a smart player.

i am also one of the rare supporters of the artest trade. i think he would make our team scary.

I didn't watch this guy(Tyrus Thomas), and I'm really curious that what make you so exciting.
This guy has %39 FG average despite playing under the rim. He is really short for PF position(6-8) and only 215 lbs. He didn't improve his block and point averages despite getting more playing time.
What makes this player special?

Erratic playing time. Erratic play. Tremendous athleticism. Youth. Significant up-side. Good lateral quickness. Long. Plays with energy. Fairly raw overall. Hybrid 4/3 foward. Gets most of his baskets on dunks and put-backs, but several times over his two years, has shown a mid-range jumpshot, a couple hook shots, and the ability to handle the ball. Also just being around the basket alone, has been able to get to the line multiple times in certain games. Has been an above-average rebounder, but of course as a trend has been out of position from going for a block. Can play defense pretty well on the wings. Great finisher.

That describes Tyrus, short and long-term. Far from a finished player.

Definitely can't just go by season averages.

I love the shouts he does sometimes on his dunks, it adds to the excitement.

I think Memphis should acquire Tyrus Thomas. Image a frontline of Kwame, Darko, and Tyrus. That's an all-bust dream team.

WE have nothing to give Chicago in my opinion besides picks and Elson.

Even the Bulls know Tyrus isn't worth 2 first rounders.

If Pau can be had for Kwame Freakin Brown + filler, surely we can get TT for Elson/Oberto and a 2nd rounder.
