If kobe misses the allstar game this weekend, and ginobili does not replace him, i would be furious. obviously i feel that baron and deron also deserve consideration, but i think it should goto ginobili.
Also, i dont feel like i am being biased because im a spurs fan either. Ginobili has been so valuable to the spurs so far and we have better records than both GS and utah going into this weekend. Hes played this season with almost a chip on his shoulder. we all know he could have been putting these numbers for the past 3 years but he chose to embrace the minutes that pop gives him without worrying about padding his stats. this year he has a chance to play more minutes and it really shows how dominate he can be.
obviously many will be pulling for baron because he is more popular but i would be furious...
also if kobe does sit out, and ginobili is picked, be prepared for "stern favors spurs once again" bullcrap.

I'd rather he not make it, as deserving as he is. Somebody from the Warriors may well be on there, likely either S-Jax or Baron Davis. Or Deron Williams. Or Josh Howard.
I kinda have a feeling Manu will, though. Just because of this team's record and his play, averages.
Hopefully the number of other deserving canidates out-number Manu and the intention of diversity of selection from teams is there

Duncan

It is not a longshot. I think all that's realistic. Only thing is I'm not sure we'd get both of Artest/Miller. I'd guess just one.
Infact, when Ron opts out, San Antonio is one of the small amount of fitting destinations for him.
Dallas? Howard has to move the two, and Terry's minutes would be limited to a degree. Who knows if they want to do all that.
Lakers? Odom, Ariza, Walton, Radmanovic all already there. A S/T has to be done, or the Lakers have to trade Odom and maybe somebody else, to another team. Regardless, the Kings already have significant SFs in Garcia, Salmons. Then that trickles down to Quincy Douby getting minutes at PG/SG, because Garcia and Salmons both see time at the guard spots, as well. Kings will also be a step closer to rebuilding, so except for Ariza, nobody makes much sense for them. Even with Ariza, you have Garcia/Salmons, and there's been a bit of a log-jam anyway.
Miami? Not if Marion's staying around, and, even if not, Miami's not the place basketball-wise it used to be. A last resort option, if Marion's not there.
Phoenix? No room. Also the Suns place a priority on character people. Not sure how Artest and D'Antoni would mix, as well.
Clippers? Has the connection to Brand, and supposedly is well-liked by Hayes, but there's just no room.
Warriors? Has friends on the team, but there's no room. Depends if Nelson's back, as well.
Knicks? Has the NYC connection, but the team situation isn't there, and already have Balkman/Chandler/Collins they're high on.
Rockets? A possibility.
Hornets? Nope.
Magic? No.
Nuggets? No. And if they did, he doesn't fit that well on Denver. Doesn't push Denver to a legit title contender status because of their remaining flaws.
Raptors? No.
Boston? No.
Cleveland? No.
Jazz? No.
Kings? There are things there that are in favor for him, but the team isn't going to be a contender, which is why I doubt it.

yeah but which team other than those two makes any noise?
as of now:
- philly would be in the playoffs with a minus 7 in W/L (some day ago I believe the 8th seed was even at minus 9 or 10)
- houston with a plus 12 would not be in the playoffs, and thats while playing more games against the better wesetern teams!
thats a +19 wins margin between the 9th in the west and the 8th in the east!!!
...houston is only 4.5 games behind the western leader (NO, and allways changing)...that said, a lot of teams deserve an allstar but that also means, that most of them only can have one!
...there are 10 deserving teams in the playoff-hunt...all but GS have at least one AS and three of them get 2 allstars: NO as homies, the suns and denver coz of the fans!...GS would have gotten one if baron davis was a Center or PF but they could noz leave a center/pf as it would have given them a smallball-nelly-lineup
...in the east the third team (ORL) is 10 games behind and plus 12 just like houston i the (again) tougher west!
they may think about something like northamerican players vs. internationals at some point (not coz of the west-east-problem, but just for kix)...at least every two years...dont they do it in the NHL? (not saying it should be used right now...but maybe in about 5 years)
something like...
yao
dirk/gasol
deng/peja
manu/turk
tony
...that isn't good enough to do it right now...and everyone would root for their opponent as there wont be many highlight-reels by them (manu and tony could provide some nice things but other than that is like a shooting-competition)

I'd have the international team like this:
Nash/Tony/Calderon
Manu/Barbosa
AK47/Deng/Peja
Dirk/Gasol/Hedo
Yao/Okur
