Rank the West Teams you want to Avoid!

Post#1 » by ceperez » Fri Mar 21, 2008 3:51 pm

Okay folks,

Here's my ranking, from worst to best (i.e. #7 is the easiest), the West teams I want the Spurs to avoid in the playoffs:

#1 - Lakers - Defense not as stifling as Boston's. Koby dangerous in the clutch. Gasol dangerous at the post. Lots of role players that can hit the 3.
#2 - Jazz - Loaded top to bottom. Dwill and Boozer are unstoppable. Got a lot of really good specialist role players that can defend, hit the 3.
#3 - Hornets - Scary...we can't contain West or Wells
#4 - Suns - Weak defending the pick and roll. Can be formidable in the middle.
#5 - Mavs - No heart. Without Diop, middle is weak. Just post up Duncan and they'll have problems the whole series.
#6 - Warriors - Streaky... but no defense.. no middle.
#7 - Rockets - After what I saw against Boston, this team doesn't have an offense if you double team McGrady.

note: I think the Nuggets aren't going to make it.

Your list is pretty much spot on.

#1 - Lakers - Defense not as stifling as Boston's. Koby dangerous in the clutch. Gasol dangerous at the post. Lots of role players that can hit the 3.

They just have the most talent....

#2 - Jazz - Loaded top to bottom. Dwill and Boozer are unstoppable. Got a lot of really good specialist role players that can defend, hit the 3.

They aren't scary defensively.... and I still question their 3 point shooting.

#3 - Hornets - Scary...we can't contain West or Wells

I would rate him higher than the Jazz... They are just inexperienced.

#4 - Suns - Weak defending the pick and roll. Can be formidable in the middle.

An enigma.. but I think worse with Shaq overall compared with Marion.

#5 - Mavs - No heart. Without Diop, middle is weak. Just post up Duncan and they'll have problems the whole series.

I think they are worse off and we match up way better with Kidd in the lineup.

#6 - Warriors - Streaky... but no defense.. no middle.

Rebounding will kill them if they face us in a 7 game series.

#7 - Rockets - After what I saw against Boston, this team doesn't have an offense if you double team McGrady.

I think their streak took too much out of them.

1. Lakers (like LyMinh said - 'if healthy')
2. Suns - I do think this series will go to 7 games but I am weary of them
3. Jazz
4. Mavs - Always seem to struggle with them
5. Rockets
6. Hornets
7. Warriors

Lakers and Hornets no doubt

Lakers if healthy have the most talent, and we'll have trouble covering both Gasol AND Bynum in the post. Kobe will be unstoppable.

Hornets... We just can't stop Chris Paul. And David West + Bonzi will give us matchup problems.

1. Lakers
2. Hornets
3. Jazz

and the rest of your list I agree with with.

I think Chandler and West would give us more problems in the paint than Boozer and Okur would. Our bigs match up well with Utah's but I think West and Chandler are tougher match ups, espically West.

My biggest concern is
1. the Suns. I don't see how we can guard Shaq and Amare.
2. Lakers. I have them #2 because of Bynum's uncertain status. And Gasol's injury.
3. Hornets
4. Jazz
5. No cercerns about ...Dallas,Houston,GState,Denver,

I'm worrying about the Spurs right now..I just want us to get back in form, and then I'll worry about other teams..if we're in top form, we can beat anybody..

Lakers and Suns are the 2 teams I believe are the main contenders with us, and NO is a darkhorse..hopefully LA and Phoenix play each other in the 2nd round and have a death match..

I think Kurt Thomas can definitely put a body on Shaq and Bynum(or Gasol)..
