Can not wait!
I for one can not wait until the playoffs start, I just want to show everyone how good the Spurs are so that they finally shut up, however, there is something I'd like to address..
I see how were spending 70 million, when there are teams spending 90+, some even 120+ to "win a ring."
So, how would you guys feel about going "over" and bringing in some new talent?
Besides Tony, Manu, Duncan, Udoka and Bowen, I really don't like anyone else coming back for us next year.
1) Sign Duhon as the backup PG, young, quick, just needs so dissipline. (Pop and Duncan)
2) Offer Baron Davis some money.. Think about this one, we really need offense, he's not that bad of a defender, and Tony, Davis, Manu running the break sounds scary.
3) We should draft a big this year, bring Ian and Splitter in as well.
4) Sign Wiilcox.. Big, offense game, good defense.
Tony/Duhon
Davis/fill
Manu/Udoka
Duncan/fill
Wilcox/Splitter

I don't think that plan is realistic at all.
That's too much change, and not the type of team make-up the organization goes for. I also think there are things missing that are needed there.
Chris Wilcox is not a solid or consistent defensive player from all that I've gathered, and is more of an offensive-minded player.
Parker/Davis back-court is dynamite offensively in terms of ability, but too small defensively (even with however much Baron can defend twos), and the offensive balance isn't there. Manu in there only adds to it, plus Duncan and Wilcox.
Manu's a good defender overall, but there isn't anybody to take the other team's best offensive player in the starting line-up. Where that is a notable part of their game, or as their main role.
The floor spacing in the starting line-up isn't significant. Baron's a clutch shooter, but don't know about Baron as a spot-shooter.
Overall, too much offense and not enough balance and compatability as a team.
There's gonna be changes in the summer (younger at certain positions relating to both sides of the court), but one's that are fitting for the team and address specific areas, while chemistry and approach is still like it's been.

we don't need any big names..we have the 3 main offensive weapons, we just need slashers and 3-point shooters around them..
I wouldn't mind Finley or Thomas returning, FOR LITTLE MONEY..if they want anything significant, I wouldn't want neither guy to return..Horry's probably gone..I don't really want JV back on the team..I would try to get rid of Matt Bonner too..
I don't mind acquiring players with POTENTIAL, but aren't happy with their team..someone like Pietrus..
PG Parker/Duhon
SG Pietrus or Childress for me/Manu/Barry
SF Udoka/Bowen
PF Duncan/Splitter/
C Oberto/Diop/Mahinmi

ok, i see you dont have a great understanding of how the cba works or about cap finances, so i wont tear into everything that i could have. but to put it simply, most of what you ask is impossible. to break it down:
1) sign chris duhon: totally possible, and a decent move. its has a bit of risk, but duhon has shown to be a reliable back-up at times, more than capable of running the spurs offense in limited minutes. and being that he would come at less than the MLE, its a viable option monetarily.
2) sign baron davis: about a 0% possibility of happening. if baron opts out, he would be leaving about 18 mil on the table. the most the spurs could sign him for would be about 5.5 mil. no player in his right mind leaves that kind of money on the table. this is probably his last good chance to bank a decent contract.
3) possible, but probably not the best use of assets. spurs have duncan, oberto, bonner, and ian under contract for next year. if splitter comes over, thats another warm body. and there is always the possibility of thomas resigning. that totals 6 warm bodies upfront. spending a pick on a wing would probably be a much wiser move, with only manu, bowen, udoka, and barry under contract next season. thats a combined age of 135 or so.
4) sign chris wilcox: 0% possibility. hes not a free agent this summer, so they is no way for the spurs to sign him.

I agree with you HH37, along with others, those guys are some of the guys I'd like to see us go after. I'm kinda mixed on Pietrus because I've heard/seen the knock on him is his smarts. Not sure how much there is to that.
I'm actually basically expecting us to sign Diop, and be interested in Duhon. I don't see him returning to the Bulls.
I'd be fine if we just kept Vaughn, I really like his basic, but effective game, and appreciate what his contributions and role is on the team. But I would prefer to see us look to upgrade. Duhon being pretty ideal, he'd be the best back-up PG this team has had since AD.
I'm not sure what will happen with Thomas. Could retire, could not be brought back, or could have a lesser role for cheap.

Sean Elliot, anybody?
I would love to see us bring Duhon, I always wanted him on this team. Okafor would be great, but he would have to want to come here to win and not get rich(er). I don't want Jackson back on this team, I would much prefer a Raja Bellesque defensive 3 shooter type at the 2. I think our biggest areas for improvement are with our bigs. KT, Oberto and Bonner just isn't enough.

Since we are always worried about staying within the cap and have a need to get younger, I could see the following pickups this off season.
Childress, Duhon, Kareem Rush, Najera. We bring in Mahimni and Splitter...and let go Horry, Finley, Thomas. And we need to find a way to trade Bonner. No spot for him on the team.
C - Oberto, Splitter
4 - Mahimni, Duncan, Najera
3 - Bowen, Udoka, Childress
2 - Manu, Barry, Rush
1- Parker, Duhon, Vaughn
Thoughts?

I'm sorry, but do you really have Duncan coming off the bench behind Mahinmi?
