I really hope we get him..his attitude problem isn't a concern with me, since he'll be playing on a team with Popovich as the coach and a winning attitude..perfect wing for us..

as for Kurt Thomas..I'm a big fan, and I loved what he brought this year..but we need some athleticism next to Duncan IMO..

I'm not as high on Pietrus as others, due to lacking enough familarity and what I've heard/read about him on a few things - but I think on this team he should become a better player, combined with summer work on his game.

The general idea I definitely dig though, because he's athletic (legitimately), has significant defensive ability, can get better there, has good size for a wing-man, and is a 3PT threat. Though I think I remember hearing he's more of a corners guy up to this point, but still.

Never knew of an attitude problem w/ him, nor would it matter much to me if there was one.

Regardless of Thomas, need to get a younger big man with NBA experience in the Duncan helper group.

If the Spurs are able to get Pietrus, it would be good for them. You would improve in the SG by bring in a fresher body and has certain skills like athleticism, 3 ball shooter, and solid "D" that can mesh into the Spurs style of play. He's also a French native and teammate of Tony Parker of the France team. Sign him if you're the Spurs.

But as long as we're on the subject...

I didn't follow GSW much at all this year. Moreso last year when they were fun and exciting and fresh and Nellie was destined to upset the Mavs. :-)

But just looking at his stats, can someone explain the following:

1) Why did his FG% drop so much this year versus last year? Which player is he? The 49% FG guy from the previous year, or the guy who in a contract year dropped to 43%?

2) I keep hearing he can play D and shoot the 3, something I recall from previous year and agreed with. But his career avg is 35% from back there, including 36% this year. That's not even considered "good" IMO. Usually closer to 40% minimum for me really.

3) His mins dropped big time this year, from 27 to 20 mpg. Who took his mins and why?

I think if he knew he was going to be a contributor he'd sign for the MLE, he'd likely start wouldn't he?
Finley leaving and Manu bring our spark off the bench.
I'd be really excited to get him. we need some young legs on this team and some one other than the Big three to take it to the other team.
There was a play during game 5 (i think) where Finley cut through the lane for a layup and the commentors response was "When's the last time you saw Micheal Finley get a layup?"
We really NEED more slashers and Pietrus can slash and shoot.

IMO I'd give the full MLE to him, what I WOULD HATE IS IF WE BROUGHT BACK ANY OF OUR OLDER GUYS, we have more than enough experience with our big three, we need YOUTH.

Get rid of Vaugh, Horry, Finely, Oberto and Thomas!!

I am kinda hesitant about giving money to a player who has a basketball iq as big as Elson, but we do need to get younger.

unfortunately, thats where ive been headed in my opinion too. thats why pietrus is back on the radar, after being pushed off long ago. i still hate so much about him, but hes still young, has such great measurables, and the skill set to potentially be a decent player.

but the fact that i have hope of petie helping "save the day" still makes me nervous of what lies ahead...

i have my dislikes regarding chillz, but those dont have to come into things here. we simply cant get him. the hawks will surely (and happily) match a full MLE offer to chillz. even if they look to move him later on down the road, you dont let talent walk for nothing unless they are being overpaid by a good bit. and chillz on the MLE is still probably a bargain.

exactly what i would like to have posted. these are all major questions/concerns.

I don't think his IQ is a factor here..he's a much better player than Elson, so I can live with bad mistakes once in a while..this guy is going to be playing off Duncan, Parker and Ginobili, in a Pop system..I don't think it's a concern IMO..

we need a slasher and a defender at the 2/3..he doesn't have to be a great 3-point shooter, just good..that's something he can do..

I find Pietrus' IQ problems to be overrated. I think he could excel as a player if given strict instruction on how to play. Nellie likes players to wheel and deal and Pietrus simply isnt that creative. My only worry is that Pop may not give him a chance if he came to town. But then again he gave Elson a shot at being a starter.

Well we can't rely on the draft this year, for somebody consistently contributing and into the playoffs this season, but that player for the following seasons.

It's not like were just going to have a rookie wing-man, and everybody else minus Finley.

i agree, im not sure rush will fall to us, and im not convinced lee is ready for a starting role.
