Post#1 » by SD2042 » Mon Jun 9, 2008 1:01 am

With the NBA draft coming up the three weeks. The Spurs have three picks in the draft.

The Spurs mostly used their draft picks on overseas players and would stash them there until they are ready to play in the NBA. With the Spurs losing out on Tiago Splitter for 4 yrs. This year, the Spurs have to draft wisely in order to infuse some young blood onto a team of veterans. I'm going to list some potentials who could have the chance of being selected by the Spurs.

#26

Brandon Rush- high popular choice on this board.

Chris Douglas-Roberts- athletic slasher and hard worker.
http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profile ... berts.html

Courtney Lee- strong presence around the perimeter and solid defender.

Richard Hendrix Need a younger PF to backup TD with Splitter not coming to the Spurs.
http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profile ... ndrix.html

Nathan Jawai- a beast with some potential to be a solid contributor. Needs improvement on lateral quickness, rotation on defense, team defense, and more options on offense.

JJ Hickson- potential PF. Needs to add more to his game in order to be more effective.
http://nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/jjhickson.html

Ryan Henderson- solid worker on offensive end. team defender. Could stand to work on man to man defense.

One of them has to be one of the bunch of solid, tough big men in this draft

I really like Rush but everyone has him lower than I expect him to be drafted.

I want to see the measurements for Courtney Lee. He seems like a nice fit but if he is closer to 6'3 than 6'5, I don't want him.

Oh I had a weird dream last night that we somehow traded up for the 3rd pick and got Mayo. We gave up all our picks and somehow McHale was ok with it.

Really wouldn't mind drafting Jawai (being aussie) and i think he'll make a good addition to this team. He's a big guy with a solid developing skill set.

It would be a dream to get Brandon Rush or Batum.
I'm hoping we don't draft any euro projects with our first 2 picks. we needs players coming we can use not just store them up and say we've done well and scouted these Euro studs but can't get them over here.

Chad Ford's latest mock draft has you guys getting Ty Lawson at 26.....thoughts?

http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/Draft/mockdraft.htm
This mock has you drafting the following:
Alexis Ajinca - 26
Scouting Report: A shot-swatting beanpole from France.
Position: PF/C
Height: 7

I am not a fan of Lawson... I think playing for UNC inflates his numbers and I don't see him being better than Felton... and lets be honest he has sucked in the NBA.

The thing is that between the Suns and us there are only a handful of teams that needs a SF/SG, and that is why there is such a big difference where some players are mocked at.

In the case of Jawai, I can see him being a solid contributor in the league. In terms of putting back shots and rebounding. He needs to work on conditioning, defense rotations, and add in some quickness to his arsenal. For some reason though, I beginning to think he could be drafted in the late first round between 28-30. If so, then the Spurs will have to hit up free agency to go after a decent center simply b/c there aren't much options in the draft in my opinion.

Update on Batum... Via draftexpress

http://www.draftexpress.com/article/200 ... Four-2921/

Nicolas Batum
Batum started off his first and only game at the Reebok Eurocamp in very strong fashion, hitting a spot-up 3-pointer right off the bat. He handled the ball a bit in transition, grabbed some rebounds and went coast to coast, and played very aggressive defense. His excellent pull-up jumper from mid-range was falling for him at a really nice rate, and he quickly racked up double digit points early in the second quarter.

As the game went on and things got slower and more congested in the half-court, though, Batum

Ibaka is a guy I forgot about, and have seen him around the latter 1st round on mocks this year - I'd love to get him.

He just better not stay overseas!

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Omri Casspi has withdrawn his name from the draft, likely after not finding a promise from any team in the first round. Casspi is in a great situation to excel in the Euroleague with Maccabi next year, and should make a strong run to be drafted in the first round.

Good news... I don't think he would have been a very productive rookie for us if we indeed were thinking about using our 1st round pick on him.
