Is George Hill as good as Derrick Rose?

Post#1 » by ceperez » Sat Jun 28, 2008 11:07 am

First off, a new post from mysanantonio:

http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/bask ... eba72.html

Next let's compare their stats for last season:

SEASON MIN PTS REB AST TO A/T STL BLK PF FG% FT% 3P% PPS
Rose 29.2 14.9 4.5 4.7 2.7 1.77 1.2 .4 1.7 .477 .712 .337 1.37
Hill 36.8 21.5 6.8 4.3 2.9 1.46 1.8 .4 2.8 .545 .812 .450 1.70

So in terms of polish, better shooting percentages (free throws, field goals and 3 points) . To be honest, Rose's 3point accuracy is a joke.

Let's look at athleticism:

Name Hght w/o Shoes Height Weight Wingspan Standing Reach Body Fat No Step Vert Max Vert Bench Press Lane Agility 3/4 Court Sprint Class Rank Drafted
Derrick Rose 6' 1.5" 6' 2.5" 196 6' 8" 8' 2.5" 4.6 34.5 40.0 10 11.69 3.05 NA 1
George Hill 6' 1.25" 6' 2.5" 181 6' 9" 8' 1.5" 3.0 34.0 37.5 9 12.20 3.07 NA No

see: http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-dra ... os=1&sort=

Rose is 1/2 an inch taller, Hill has an inch longer wingspan, Rose can leap 1/2 an inch higher ( no step), 2 1/2 inches higher (max) and 0.02 seconds faster than Hill. But essentially, their vital stats are near identical!

In summary, Hill is comparable athletically to Rose, however may have better shooting accuracy.

Now Rose was the #1 draft pick... with Hill we may certainly been a complete steal.

While those comparison's certainly make George look very appealing, basketball simply isnt about physical mechanics and stats. Feel for the game and intangibles can be the difference between a great player and an average one.
I certainly am clambering aboard the Hill bandwagon. To even pose this as a question is just absurb, and I mean that as no slight to Hill. Rose is simply just too good.

if Hill is even close to Rose during his career, I'll never doubt our FO again..even if they trade Tim Duncan for Drew Gooden, I would never doubt them again..

I've steadily gotten to like Hill a lot since the draft was over...

hill played against lower level competition, rose played and some would even say lead his team to the championship game. its impossible to compare the 2 at this point.

Hill was a 6'1'' SG in IUPUI. I'm not sure how that's gonna translate here with the Spurs. He also has a poor turnover rate and that's something Pop will easily get upset about.
