OT: San Antonio

Post#1 » by pr0nny » Tue Jul 1, 2008 4:35 pm

Hey guys, San Antonio native Portland Spurs fan here (okay, Spurs are my second favorite team...I've lived in Portland pretty much my whole life.)

Anyway, I'm returning to the homeland on July 17th for a few days and me and my buddy are trying to have some fun. We're going to Six flags (maybe Sea world...?) Check out the Alamo, River walk etc.

I guess my main questions are:

1. Is Sea World worth going to? My friend expressed concern it might be lame. I went to the one in San Diego and had fun.

2. Any good resteraunts on the River Walk strip? I down for anything really as long as it isn't crazy expensive.

3. Good bars?

4. Any good places to check out Spurs stuff? like is their a shrine somewhere? Is the arena worth checking out?

Feel free to recommend any other stuff you think a couple 21+ year old dudes might find fun. I was thinking about going to the River Center mall any checking that out. Anyway, thanks guys.

Hmm..no answers yet.

I haven't lived in SA for about 6 years, but I'll try to answer as best I can. I'm actually coming to SA this next week. I'm taking my girl to see my hometown.

1. SeaWorld is pretty cool. I had season passes for both Six Flags and SeaWorld. If its a couple of dudes, you might not enjoy it as much, but they still have a few rollercoasters and water log/tube rides. They also have a decent waterpark. I don't know much about what they've added since then. Their main stuff comes from the shows, obviously. I think the shows are really neat, but a couple of young guys might not really enjoy sitting and watching some shows. I plan on taking the lady there next week. I'm pretty sure she will love it.

2. A decent mexican restaurant downtown is Mi Tierra. Its neat food and a neat atmosphere. I'm not too familiar with most restaurants on the riverwalk since I rarely ate there. Maybe once actually. I'd recommend Rudy's BBQ, which is actually right next to SeaWorld. Pretty good BBQ food. Chester's Burgers, which you'll find in a few places, is also a pretty good place.

3. Bars...hmm, I've not much help here, I left SA when I was 17 going on 18.

4. Not much help here either.

Hmm..well, I kind of answered 2 out of 4. ha. As for other stuff to do, if you want to go to Malls, North Star Mall is also good as well. The Quarry off of 281 is a neat lil area and La Cantera shopping center (think mall without a roof) is really neat as well. If you guys are golfers, you might want to try to hit a couple of golf courses, there are lots of nice golf courses in SA. THere is definitely quite a bit nightlife wise but I'm not much help there. You obviously want to hit the riverwalk for stuff. Don't forget to hit the Tower! If you guys like water parks, I'd recommend Schlitterbahn, (or to a lesser extent Splashtown if its still around). Schlitterbahn is a pretty sweet water park, one of the largest in the nation. It is about 30-40 minutes outside of SA.

If you want a really neat nighttime experienced. I'd head up the road to Austin's 6th street. Its about 75 miles north, but the town is great for nightlife. It a young atmosphere, college town, and full of bars within walking distance. 6th street is the happening spot. If I were taking some friends home, I'd make sure to go to Austin for a night or two on the weekend. Might add expense with a hotel if you have to spend the night after going out, but its worth it IMO.

I'll let you know of I think of anything else. I'll be reading this to see what other people say. I'm taking the lady to Texas for the first time this next Tuesday and I gotta prove to her that Texas is the coolest State EVER!
