Maybe something with Dorrell Wright? I thought about Wright as a possibility recently, but the most recent developments with Miami adds to things.

Miami signed James Jones late in July, just signed Yakhouba Diawara (Denver young defender without a j yet), to a guaranteed deal, and also got the underrated Bobby Jones off of waivers a couple days ago. And of course have Shawn Marion.

Wright would be that big, athletic SF we've been looking for... he's expanded his game to notably more than just an athlete over the last year and a half. Specifically, he has a nice mid-range shot, but needs to extend his range to 3P. I really have got to like how he's developed, he definitely still has untapped ability, and more learning to do.

Finishing off the offseason with Pargo and Wright wouldn't be so bad.

I wouldn't mind somehow getting Wright. He is a very good rebounder and most importantly... he is young.

Yes, his rebounding, along with his shotblocking, are especially nice for a SF. Aside from seeing that several times within the last two seasons, here are some stats...

He had 4 double-doubles last year, and nine games with 7-8 rebounds. In 06-07, he had 6 double digit rebounding games, 4 of those double-doubles, and nine games with 7-9 rebounds.

Hasn't taken many threes so far, which is smart because he doesn't have range there yet. Looking at when he's played the most, the last two seasons, 4-11, 5-34 3P. He can shoot legitimately in the 15-18 ft range, though.

Averaged .93 bpg last season (41 blocks), and .70 (46 blocks) in 06-07.

Postional defense, I'm not that sure about, I'd guess he has to learn and evolve there more, and has inconsistency. Wasn't able to get a grasp on that area for him, moreso going off what I've read.

A hell of a finisher, being a super athlete.

Turns 23 on 12/2

Here's something of what he can, do defensively

Wright -- who grew up in Los Angeles and got his chance to face the Lakers for the first time, after sitting out the four meetings between the clubs in his first two NBA seasons -- had two dunks and a jumper in a 56-second span midway through the quarter, helping Miami build a quick 17-8 lead.

But Wright's biggest contribution came on defense. He thought Wade would guard Bryant, a fib Riley told so Wright wouldn't be nervous coming to work on Monday. Wright got word that he'd be the one starting against Bryant about two hours before gametime.

"I think I did decent," Wright said. "To stop him, you hope he misses shots. ... He's a scorer. If anyone can score 81 points in the NBA, they're going to be aggressive anytime."

While against a worse Laker team, that's still quite impressive, I didn't know about that from that game.

i like wright, but i cant see how we could get him. even if miami is interested in moving him, his value is higher than anything that we would be offering.

I will give you Pachulia is younger. Talent wise, particularly for last season, Oberto is better... Also, Oberto's contract is expiring in 2010, not 2009, which is theoretically in line with a big FA offseason, and our FO's possibly mythical 2010 plan.

Perhaps something like Bonner for Pachulia, might be more palatable.

The alternative would be some sort of sign and trade for Wright would be good. Especially is we could parley Finley's rights into something useful. Also, if we get Pargo, we need to move either Vaughn or Hill.... Assuming we get Pargo

So,
SA out - Bonner, Vaughn, Finley (S&T'ed declining contract for 3 years. 3ed year exists but is a team option, 3M$, vet min, vet min)
SA in - Pachulia, Wright
Why? SA moves Vaugh (dead weight if we have Pargo), Finley who was very inconsistent last year, and Bonner who appears to be immovably in Pop's doghouse. We get a serviceable big (Pachulia), a SF prospect, while getting younger and more athletic, and don't significantly screw up our salary cap. Finley signs on because he gets significantly overpaid in year one, and Miami's a nice place to be (as well as maybe a darkhorse out east - Wade, Beasely, Marion might just shock the hell out of people).

ATL out - Pachulia
ATL in - Bonner, Vaughn
Why? Bonner might be a better fit than Pachulia, Vaughn gives them a decent 2nd/3ed option pg (they currently have only Claxton and Law).

MIA in - Finley
MIA out - Wright (S&T'ed as increasing contract for 3 years, 3ed year is a team option, starting at 4$M per year)
Why? Gets a character vet for a young locker room as value for Wright who wants more money than they want to pay. Finley's last year may have been an aberration. Gives them a body to play while gunning for another lottery pick if it doesn't gell, and gives them a vet who has come up big in big games before if it does...
Wright signs because it's A) more money than the qualifying offer, and B) more money than Miami is willing to pay him...

That's a good point about using Finley in a trade... he still has decent value because he's a proven experienced shooter.

That's a pretty good trade. I would definitely do that. How is Wright from the free throw line?

05-06 (20 games): 88 percent

06-07 (66 games): 74 percent

07-08 (44 games): 82 percent (.826)

Not bad

Another guy I'd still like for us to look into is Damien Wilkins... I think he'd be a nice, pretty athletic SF on both ends.

That 3-way deal today with OKC involved reminded me of him

edit: As well as Desmond Mason being a Thunderer now, also in the deal

I think Wilkins or Wright would be nice.
Realistcally they will be playing behind Manu, Mason, Bowen and possibly Udoka so maybe Wright would be the better pick as we can groom him to be the defensive heir apparant to Bruce.

I think either would see most of their time at SF, though
