Spurs need to sign Mt. Mutombo
Timmy D needs help in the post and I don't think Oberto is gonna give them anything except another softie in the middle. Thomas' shot is not sinking and he is a year older and a year slower, still pretty decent on D but Mutombo can lock down the middle for this year since Ian isn't coming

Re: Spurs need to sign Mt. Mutombo
I suggested this multiple times last summer and I think just about everybody said he was too old. And, somebody also tried to make the case Deke's only good for guarding Shaq, and because Shaq isn't dominant anymore, so we didn't need him (*rollls eyes*).
But as shown in the years before last year and last year, he's absolutely still an above-average role-player, and can start if needed.
I'd love to have him on the team, I don't care if he would make us older, because that isn't an issue when what he would bring is improvement.
I think the Rockets probably unofficially have Deke's bird rights though. I don't quite expect him to change teams.
On Thomas' shot, I expect that to go down more as time goes on. He didn't play much in pre-season, and is an older guy, so it'll take a little bit of time.
Oberto will help with his size and toughness, but he can't be that active, and is around average agility-wise.
Got to get better up front, and regardless of what goes on internally (Tolliver, Ian, however much they play), there will have to be a move done externally. Specifically getting more mobile and active. If not an outside veteran, then I think Ian or Tolliver, should definitely be the back-up PF.

Except that it wouldn't be bad older
I think it's a lot more likely Deke continues to produce like he has in the last few years (limited role off the bench, or starting), than it is him really not being much of a factor anymore.

let's just see what Ian gives first, which should be about in mid-November..
Oberto isn't the ideal pick, but we win both games if Oberto is playing IMO his size alone is better than Bonner, and he's much more mobile than Thomas..

Because Duncan's greater responsibility on the offensive end he can't expend as much energy on the boards and defensively. With Deke starting the Spurs can have Oberto and Ian back up Duncan and Thomas still gets significant minutes backing up Deke who is gonna play maybe 20-28 mpg. I agree it makes the team older but this is only meant as a short term solution until Ian and Tolliver can really make an impact in teh NbA

It would be a temporary fix to a problem that looks long term. If its for the minimum and we stay under the tax I see no harm in signing him if he's still interested in playing.

I would glady accept Mutombo on this team. Regardless of his age, he's an exceptional player. He would also fill the void of the second shotblocker, at least while Mahinmi develops. The problem is finding a roster space for him.
Ideally we could find a 2 for 1 upgrade somewhere to make the room. I'd rather keep Tolliver around simply because he's young and the Spurs may actually see something in him.

I would really like another option than Mutombo.
Sure he has the ability to play for some spot minutes besides i'm not sure Houston is going to let him go.
I would like to see us try to package a trade with Bonner, Vaughn for someone.
Somebody like Melvin Ely perhaps, i don't think he is that expensive and he would immediatly bring a tougher presence down low, I'm not sure how the front office felt about him though during his tenure here, but get a tough inside presence.
It would also be interesting if we could lure Antonio McDyess, but he'll likely end up back in Detroit.

Heh well, I don't know how he'd fit on your team specifically, but I'm pretty sure he's either with us or retired, so it's moot. As far as "he's old", at times last year our team was BETTER with him on the court than with Yao, and his defense and rebounding are still pretty top notch. Only place where "old" has seemed to come into play is that he can't really dunk the ball all that easily anymore (which is a sight to see).
