Realistic Draft 09 Options

Post#1 » by bishopospurs » Fri Jun 5, 2009 4:07 pm

With the Draft still three weeks off I am not sure what will happen with trades and sliders in the top of the 2nd round for us. However our later two picks in the second have some options that should be around by the time we pick. I think the first pick we have in round two should be traded so we can move up to the first round for someone that can possibly start at SF. I have two players I was wondering if anyone has heard of that I think could help us.

1. alade aminu- athletic power forward - http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Alade-Aminu-1389/

2. Slava Kravtsov- Slava Kravtsov is a big, strong tough center currently competing in his native Ukraine. He is not playing very many minutes for BC Kyiv and is probably not a lock at being drafted this year. However, he is capable of monster plays.

I'm a big fan of Aminu, he got all the tools to be a rotation player he just needs to develop some of his talents and learn how to use his athleticism and body better.

Danny Green is another guy I'd like to get a hold of. He looks like he's going to be a great role player in this league. He's got some range on his shot, a high B-ball IQ and he makes great decisions on the floor. He could be a Keith Bogans type player.

Danny Green would be sick too, if either of the Tar Heels (Tyler Hansborough) fall down to us at #9 in round 2 we should grab them up as the roster stands right now. This could be a great off season for the spurs being as other teams without franchise players are gearing up for 2010 we could really steal some talent via free agency or trade.
Why in the world do mock drafts have us picking up another point gaurd this draft? I have seen it a few times around the web, it just seems so ridiculous.

No idea, the last thing we need is another guard right now.

I'd really like to see us draft the best avaliable wing or bigman.

I really wish Jarvis Varnado would have stayed in this years draft, he would of been a great pick up with the 39th pick. He's a great rebounder and shot blocker and could of learned a alot from Duncan.

Here is a SI article talking about the draft process. The main GM interviewed is RC Buford, just in case someone is interested. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/w ... index.html
Unfortunately there isn't any speculation on the Spurs plans, it does state he was looking at late round talent, which makes me think we may not be looking to trade up, but who knows with the spurs. I feel like we can wish and hope for a player that is well respected but we will take the one guy no one has ever heard of or seen play before.

Nolan, I totally agree with you, I definitely think we should go with the best big or SF left on the board when the time comes for our first pick.

I think this is the one year that I don't mind the Spurs drafting an international player and let him stay there or trade the pick for future 2nd rounder.

It's a weak draft. I think our guys like Marcus Williams would be in the 1st round in this draft class. I'm not high at all on this draft class and with a pick as low as 39th. They're not likely to make any contributions

There isn't much that I like from our current draft range. I would like to get a bigman or a SF, but it is unlikely that we get a rotation player in the draft.

Check out this guy Jonas Jerebko, I wouldn't mind landing this guy in the second round. 6'9 SF/PF http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Jonas-Jerebko-1403/
