trade with Nets

Post#1 » by brook_11 » Wed Apr 29, 2009 4:25 am

Once you guys lost the series to the Mavs, i think the management is likely willing to make some roster changes for next year. So, what do you guys think of this:
SAN get: Sean Williams, Trenton Hassel, Eduardo Najera, NJN´s 11th pick this year
NJN get: Bruce Bowen and K.Thomas
Why for Spurs: You get younger(Williams and the 11th pick), dont break your core, and still are competitive in the west, once Hassel and Najera are good defenders and would fit just fine in San Antonio.
Why for the Nets: We improve our defense and rebounding.
What do you think?

i'm not sure what Hassell's contract is. Najera thou just got signed last summer and has about 3 years left. The Spurs plan on having cap room for the 2009 FA class. picking up Hassell and Najera's contract isn't worth for the simple reason of getting troubled Forward Sean Williams and an 11th pick in a weak draft class.

I say no. Even if we move Bowen and Thomas in a package, they're a combined 10 mil of expirings. I'm sure we could get a better deal.

I would consider it but I think the Spurs will wait until the draft workouts before considering trading for a pick.

I would consider it, but if you swapped Boone for Williams I would definitely do it. Hassel could replace Bowen as our defensive stopper, Najera's contract is long but it's not fully guaranteed for the last two years I believe so his deal really doesn't cripple our cap situation. We could get a decent player at 11 and most importantly we can get a young player something we badly need. DeJuan Blair will most likely be available at 11 and he would be a perfect guy to go next to Duncan.

I'm not a Spurs fan but I think the 11th pick is too good to pass up. Sure, the draft class is weak but the players are still young and somewhat talented. Spurs could use some youth.

What if we throw in another player and manage to grab Yi Jianlin plus the 11th pick, Hassell and Najera? That would give us a nice player plus we could draft Curry or a good shooter high, then Tyler Hansborough in the 2nd round. Finley retires, we pick Rasheed Wallace. We end up with 3 quality young guys, plus the big 3, and the best veteran available in free agency. By veteran i mean over ten years in the league.

The extra player would have to be Fabricio Oberto

Sweetny was a lazy mofo who only played on the offensive end of the floor. Blair is a work horse and a defensive force. Two very different players in my mind.

Sounds like to describe Malik Rose of old before he got that contract from the Spurs.

as a Nets fan, you should be shamed at offering such a horendous deal. You want to trade the # 11 pick (no matter how weak the draft is supposed to be) for Kurt Thomas and Bruce Bowen???? They are both at least 35!! Whatever you are on, can I have some to?

The idea is that the Nets get cap savings and get rid of their long term contracts in order to get some prized free agents in 2010.

all this does is shave najera's contract and the # 11 pick off of 2010 payroll. I dont think trading # 11 for the oppourtinuty to rid themselves of najera is the way to go, and would certainly not fit well with Thorn or Kiki

I'm going to have to wholeheartedly agree. This is one of the dumbest trade ideas of seen. A troubled Sean Williams is still more valuable than a 35 yr old KT or Bruce Bowen, now you are talking about throwing in the 11th pick on top of that? Wow...
