Parker offered for Paul

Post#1 » by PerkinsFor3 » Mon Jan 11, 2010 3:51 pm

League sources report that the Spurs dangled Tony Parker as part of an offer for Chris Paul, which the Hornets immediately turned down.
There's not a lot to take from this other than the fact that New Orleans' tight financial situation has emboldened rival GMs. They would love to save some money, of course, but not by dumping CP3.

Here's the link and paragraph about this.

Bold Move In San Antonio?: The San Antonio Spurs are not happy or satisfied with where they stand today. League sources said recently that the Spurs made a pass at New Orleans trying to pry away Chris Paul with an offer that included Tony Parker.

The offer was immediately turned away by the Hornets.

However it is interesting to hear San Antonio would consider parting with Parker, but if it returned Chris Paul the move is easy to justify. Parker has one more season remaining on his deal worth $13.6 million and could be one of the top free agent guards in the summer of 2011.

No f***ing way! Tony cannot be dealt, I don't care who we get back. We don't trade our guys, I hope Tony stays here for his career, just like The Admiral and Timmy and, hopefully, Manu.

I love Tony but if we getting Chris Paul back i'd be ecstatic.

I hope they are wrong because this could really piss tony off. CP is the better player but Tony has the championship experience and still young.

Given the choice I would take Paul. He's one of those guys that makes everyone on his team better.

I agree ^^^. TP hasn't been great this year but if this is true it won't do much for his confidence.

According to an article in 48 Minutes from Hell, TP and Pop had a "heated exchange" in the game vs Detroit last week:

It’s rare to see Tony Parker and Pop yelling at each other but that took place early in the second quarter against the Pistons. Here was the scenario: Parker didn’t close all the way out on Rodney Stuckey when Stuckey was in the corner behind the three-point line. Instead, Parker closed out to within about five feet to protect against the drive. Stuckey proceeded to rise up and knock down the three-pointer after a slight hesitation.

Pop, as is usually the case when an opposing player gets an open three-pointer, wasn’t too happy. On the next stoppage, he yelled at Parker for not closing out. He then took Parker out of the game and the two exchanged more heated words. Why was Parker angry? He felt he was following the scouting report. Coming into the game, Stuckey was 14.7% on three-pointers. Even worse than that, he had missed his last ten from downtown and was just one for his last 19.

Not sure if this is relatable in any way to the trade rumors.

But the trade would be a no-brainer. Paul is the best PG in the league hands down.

Um Eva Longoria > Chris Paul. Common sense not to make that trade. :P

A lot of the time, GM's make these offers just to set a player's value. In other words, perhaps SA is willing to deal TP, but if they deal him, they want a helluva return (rightfully so).

This time last year I wouldn't have traded TP for anyone. He's not the same player this season. But I'm assuming he's playing hurt and will hopefully round into form come playoff time.

Maybe Pop know something that we don't. Maybe he knows Tony is going to walk when his contract is up. TP could make so much more money in a larger market plus SA doesn't have the greatest night life or A listers.

If you're not willing to trade Parker for the best PG in the game, then you're not thinking big picture.

Duncan is the closest to an untouchable................ that being said ............. if someone offered you a TON for him.... you'd have to consider if that would be the best way to rebuild in a hurry.

As big a fan i am of tony parker, if the hornets said "Here's Chris Paul for tony and filler," i would have to say yes and rather quickly.
Then i'd have to ask Realgm to have my name changed lol.
Luckily it's coming from hoops world so i don't think we have to hold our breath for too long
