We need to upgrade at C and on one or two of the major wing positions... for real

There's no way the Spurs bring the same team back next summer. I think Mason is gone. Bonner maybe gone too. Finley retires. So even if we bring back Manu and use our MLE and get a good player to replace Mason and Bonner, are we gonna be that much better? I don't see it. And if that's the situation, I don't see why the Spurs will resign Manu to a new contract.

I hate to say it, but it really is starting to feel like the Spurs should start rebuilding this summer. Our championship windows has passed. I could never imagine Tim Duncan in another uniform, but that possibility has never been more real than right now.

Ridiculous. TD is not the problem.

If we're rebuilding, then what's the point of keeping TD and Manu? More importantly, would TD be satisfied with being in a rebuilding program knowing that he himself says he has only 2 or 3 more years after this. If the FO decide to rebuild, it will be in the best interest of Duncan and the team itself to part ways.

What do you think we would be offered in return for a package of Manu/TD, realistically?

Haywood would of been perfect. Maybe we could pick him up in the offseason for the full MLE?

Spurs gonna have to make due with what they have. Looking at this Rodeo road trip we win tonight and its 6-2 only loses coming at Portland which we were up 10 in the 4th and LA where we just didnt show up.

Never know spurs might be quietly putting things together.

If it comes to rebuilding, for Tim Duncan I'm sure we could get a draft pick and some young talent in return to speed up the rebuilding process. Anyways, I think any scenario with TD traded comes from TD himself. I doubt the Spurs are gonna entertain any TD offers unless TD himself says he'd like to be somewhere he can retire a champion or whatever. And then the Spurs will likely grant him any of his wish on wherever he wants to go. If we get back a young player with potential, that'd be enough. We owe Duncan that much if he ever decide he wants to be elsewhere.

We would never get "fair" market value for TD, or Manu for that matter. Duncan turns 34 when the playoffs roll around, Manu is 33 in July. They both have significant miles on their odometers. Of the two, Manu's future looks less bright.

I don't think we improve our team - short or long term - by moving either of these two. I think it would be a lateral move at best. We'd get younger pieces but not necessarily better.

I think our best trade asset is Parker.

If we're trying to find ways to be a title contender, yeah I think our best trade asset is Parker. We have Hill right behind him to take that Starting PG position and I feel pretty good with Hill.

As far as being in a rebuilding mode, I don't think you can expect making a trade where you trade an old guy, receive a young guy who is better than the old guy. You'd have to trade proven asset (Duncan) to get young talent with huge potential (whoever).

If you trade proven asset to get younger and better pieces, what's in it for the other team?
