Statues ouside the AT&T Center?

Post#1 » by Nolan » Sat May 21, 2011 5:21 pm

With all the talk around Kareem's Staples center snub do you guys think we should put up some statues to honour some of our great players?

Personally i'd love to see Gervin, Robinson, Duncan and Pops all get statues.

What do you guys think?

Sure. Because I don't know who else deserved it. Elliott and Avery weren't good enough to get statues.

I think Manu's done enough to warrant a statue.

I don't know. I know Manu's resume as a basketball player, but as a Spur?

2 allstar appearances and modest numbers. As far as accolades go as a Spur, Parker probably has more than Manu.

I mean, Parker atleast got 2007 finals MVP at his side, and the status as the starting PG for 3 NBA championship teams.

Manu got no MVPs and even though nobody sees him as a Jason Terry type backup, he was nonetheless a career backup player with the Spurs.

Status outside of the At&T center should be for legends who made the Spurs known. At the very least, I'd like it to be a guy who we consider as franchise players for so long. I think it's no lock that Manu gets it.

I dunno I think Robinson deserves one as well. He might not of won us as many chips as Duncan but he spent his entire career here and he's one of the all time greats.

Of course The Admiral deserves one. He changed the identity of the team, won an MVP, DPOY, multiple all star and all-NBA selection before TD was drafted. Definitely.

What did someone like Gervin do aside from score a bunch?

TD and DRob should have statues that stand side by side towering over the main entrance to the AT&T center (live in Australia so I have no idea what the the outside of the arena looks like)
They were called the Twin Towers so I think a statue like that would be quite fitting.

Maybe elliot can have a small statue that shows rasheed sooooo close to getting to that corner three from the memorial day mircale.

Also, I think Uwe Blab and Frank Brickowski should have bronzed likenesses somewhere in the vicinity of AT&T.
