does it really make a sense for SA to rebuild at this point ? DUncan and Ginobili are aging and TP is the only star in his prime. IMO the only interest in dealing TP would be if the buyer take RJ in the same time. But if you do so, you basically need to give away your main asset to erase a mistake you did a year ago and you are not improving. SO the deal should allow to give away RJ + get something in return and it's more of a stretch here...

the GH deal makes much more sense because it does not really impair the team and it brings something in return.

Shipping out Hill seems like a retooling as opposed to a rebuild, which makes me think that management still thinks we're contenders...

I don't mind the retooling.

I think rebuild means a total firesale. Duncan out, Manu out. Parker out. And we'd have to ship out some good young talent just to get somebody to take Richard Jefferson's contract out of our hand.

Trying to be an optimist, I see we have a team that won 60 games. We have Duncan and Manu under contract. Why not retool? I'd say we retool if we won 42 games and had 8 old guys playing in a 9 man rotation.

Right now, I think we have a good balance of young and old.

The old/reliable lineup: Bonner, Duncan, Jefferson, Manu, Parker

The future lineup: Splitter, Blair, Leonard, Neal, Parker (young enough), and let's throw in James Anderson here too.

I like it. Add in whoever we can bring in FA, we should be a much better team come next year. Maybe not as good as Miami (My bet for title next year), but I take my chances againts Dallas, OKC, Portland, Memphis, Orlando, Boston, LA.

Yeah a total rebuild at this stage probably doesn't make a lot of sense. We would always get 10 cents on the dollar trading away TD, Manu, Parker and/or RJ anyway, so we may as well add young talent to surround with the vets.

I still like what we have. I didn't like the way we ended the regular season, no Spurs fan would've. We had injuries at the wrong time. We had Blair starting for us for the first, what, 70 games - then he was benched and we barely saw him again. Some of Pops decisions over the course of the season were questionable. He's a great coach but can be very stubborn.

The homer in me still says we can compete with the best that the west has to offer.

in all case there is no way any trade would transform the spurs into a sure thing contender next year as the lineup you have is close to the best you can get. Your team belongs to the best of the NBA and it's way too early to rebuild in particular because there is no benefit of rebuilding now as opposed to in a year or two. Let's enjoy for the moment what you have i.e. a successful team and borderline contender, you will focus on rebuilding later on as rebuilding is a long and painful process... no hurry !
